Indian auto market is buzzing. Talking about FY26, there was huge sale in the last financial year. After the GST update in September, there was a huge boom in the market, which can be seen till now. If we talk about total sales, then 47,05,056 new vehicles have been sold in the financial year 2025-26.

This figure shows an excellent increase of 13 percent on an annual basis compared to the total 41,63,927 units sold in the financial year 2024-25. Maruti Suzuki remained number-1 as always. Forget the mechanic! Do car service at home like this, thousands of rupees will be saved every year

Forget the mechanic! Do car service at home like this, thousands of rupees will be saved every year

In today's era, car is not just a luxury but has become an essential part of our lifestyle. But the biggest challenge after buying a car is its maintenance. Often we run to the mechanic even for small problems like oil checking, air filter cleaning or wiper replacement and pay huge labor charges.

Did you know that a large part of car servicing is so easy that you can do it yourself in your garage or parking lot? Getting regular minor servicing done at home not only saves your hard-earned money, but also gives you better information about the condition of your vehicle. In this article, we will tell you about those 5 tricks, by adopting which you can become the 'doctor' of your car.

1. Regular check of engine oil and filter

Engine oil is the 'blood' of your car. If it becomes dirty or reduces, the engine parts start rubbing against each other, which can cause huge damage. To check this, open the bonnet of the car and remove the 'dipstick'. Wipe it with a clean cloth, put it back in and then take it out and look. By changing oil at home, you can easily save mechanic's service charge of Rs 500 to Rs 1000. Oil level should be between 'minimum' and 'maximum'. If the oil color is dark black and sticky, it is time to change it.

2. Air filter cleaning and replacement

The air filter protects the engine from dust and dirt. If it gets jammed, the mileage of the car starts falling rapidly and the pressure on the engine increases. There is a plastic box near the engine of the car, in which the air filter is installed. Open the clips and take out the filter. If the filter is not very dirty, dust it vigorously or clean it with a vacuum cleaner/air pressure. If it has turned black, buy a new one and install it yourself. With this, the fuel efficiency of your car can increase by 10%.

3. Maintaining coolant and brake fluid levels

Coolant is essential to keep the engine cool and the correct brake fluid is essential for safe driving. Mechanics often charge huge amounts in the name of topping up these fluids. Look at the coolant reserve tank under the bonnet. If the level is low, add coolant and water mixture as per the car manual. Similarly, check the brake fluid container also. Never open the coolant lid when the engine is hot, there is a risk of getting burned by the steam.

4. Cleaning the battery terminals

Often the reason for the car not starting is not the battery's fault, but the 'white layer' (Corrosion) accumulated on its terminals. Mix one spoon of baking soda in one cup of lukewarm water. With the help of an old toothbrush, scrub the battery terminals. After cleaning, apply some Vaseline or grease on them. This increases the life of the battery and you do not need to frequently replace the battery or go to the electrician.

5. Management of wiper blades and tire pressure

Bad wipers can cause accidents during rainy season. Changing them is a very easy task. Lift the wiper arm, press the clip of the old blade, remove it and install the new blade. No tool is required for this. Check tire pressure at least twice a month. When there is less air, tires wear out quickly and mileage is reduced. You can monitor it yourself by purchasing an inexpensive digital pressure gauge.

Our advice: Car maintenance is not rocket science. It will take you only 30 to 45 minutes in a month to do the 5 tasks mentioned above. By taking care of these small things, you will not only avoid long queues and unnecessary expenses at the mechanic, but the resale value of your car will also remain better. So next time you think of servicing, first pick up the toolkit yourself and start taking care of your car, it will save both money and time.

This EV made in India got less stars in foreign crash test

This EV made in India got less stars in foreign crash test

Australia and New Zealand's independent safety agency ANCAP has given Suzuki's first electric car Suzuki e Vitara a 4 star safety rating. This rating is for all variants that will be implemented from March 2026 and will remain valid till December 2031. This electric SUV manufactured by Maruti Suzuki in India has shown strong safety performance in the global market, although it could not get 5 stars due to the lack of center airbag.

According to the ANCAP test report, the e-Vitara scored 77% (31/40 points) in Adult Occupant Protection, 87% (43/49 points) in Child Occupant Protection, 79% (50.34/63 points) in Vulnerable Road User Protection and 71% (12.78/18 points) in Safety Assist. Let us know how safe ANCAP found it?

How safe is e Vitara?

In the frontal crash test, driver's chest protection was rated 'Weak' and rear passenger's head protection was rated 'Marginal', which were the main factors affecting the overall score. Despite this, the vehicle showed solid performance in most areas.

Standard safety features on the e-Vitara include dual frontal airbags, side and curtain airbags, driver knee airbag, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchorages and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) level-2.

ADAS features include technologies like AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) car-to-car (including rear), lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, high beam assist and forward collision warning. These features play an important role in crash avoidance and mitigation.

Design, features and specifications

This SUV is built on the HEARTECT-e platform developed in India, which has a length of 4275 mm, width of 1800 mm and wheelbase of 2700 mm. Two battery options are available in it тАУ 49 kWh and 61 kWh LFP. The 61 kWh variant delivers 172 bhp power and ARAI range of up to 543 km.

With fast charging, 10-80% charge is done in just 45 minutes. The interior has premium features like 10.1 inch infotainment screen, 10.25 inch digital cluster, ventilated seats, 360 degree camera, sunroof and level-2 ADAS. Boot space is 310 litres, which can be expanded with a flexible rear seat.

In India, Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara has already received a 5 star rating in BNCAP, which is very positive for the domestic market. Getting 4 stars in ANCAP confirms that the vehicle has met global safety standards. However, ANCAP experts say that 5 stars could have been achieved by adding additional features like a center airbag. This SUV is going to be launched in Australia in June 2026.

Indian families are very fond of Mahindra XUV 7XO!

Indian families are very fond of Mahindra XUV 7XO!

Mahindra has created a new record in its premium SUV segment. The delivery of the company's newly launched Mahindra XUV 7XO has reached more than 20,000 units in just three months. This achievement reflects the company's strong hold in the Indian automobile market and the trust of consumers. The demand for this model has been continuously increasing since its launch in January 2026, which further strengthens Mahindra's SUV lineup.

Mahindra XUV 7XO is actually a facelift version of XUV700, which was introduced by the company in January 2026. At the time of launch, it was offered at an attractive introductory price, which starts at just Rs 13.66 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant AX petrol manual. In top variants it goes for around Rs 24 lakh.

price will not increase

The company has clarified that these introductory prices will be effective till the first 40,000 customer deliveries. Recently, Mahindra had announced a price hike of up to 2.5 percent in its ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) SUV range, but the XUV 7XO has been saved from this increase. The old price will remain intact till the first 40,000 bookings or deliveries, due to which early buyers are getting benefit.

cell is getting bigger

If we look at the sales figures, 10,133 units were sold in the first month of delivery starting in January 2026. In February this figure was 9,112 units, whereas in March 2026, sales of 9,210 units were recorded. Overall, retail sales of around 28,455 units were achieved in three months, with the milestone of 20,000 deliveries soon being crossed.

This performance is also commendable because in the initial months, only the high-end variants (AX7, AX7 Tech and AX7 L), which are priced above Rs 20 lakh, were being delivered. Now the delivery of lower and mid variants (AX, AX3, AX5) is starting from April, due to which the demand is expected to increase further.

Features and Specifications

Many new technologies and features have been provided in XUV 7XO, which give it a distinct identity in the segment. This includes Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), panoramic sunroof, premium interior, powerful petrol and diesel engine options. With 7-seater configuration it is perfect for family use. Mahindra launched this new model, taking forward the record of selling more than 3 lakh units of XUV700, which is now building on the success of XUV700.

XUV 7XO is competing with competitors like Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus in the market. Plans are also underway to increase the production capacity at the company's Chakan plant, so that the increasing demand can be met. Talking about bookings, at the time of launch, more than 93,000 bookings were registered with XUV7XO and other models, whose value is more than Rs 20,500 crore.

Renault Duster Vs Honda Elevate: Which SUV is more profitable to buy? Know

Renault Duster Vs Honda Elevate: Which SUV is more profitable to buy? Know

Renault Duster Vs Honda Elevate: Renault Duster has been launched in the Indian market after a long wait. The company has currently introduced it with two engine options. In the coming days, around Diwali, it will also get a Hybrid engine. It is going to compete with many SUVs in the market. Honda Elevate is also a big name in this.

Talking about the price, the starting price of Renault Duster starts from тВ╣ 10.49 lakh and goes up to тВ╣ 18.69 lakh for the top variant. Whereas, Honda Elevate starts from тВ╣ 11.60 lakh and the top variant goes up to around тВ╣ 16.67 lakh. Duster is affordable in the base variant, but becomes expensive in the top spec. Let us try to find out which SUV among these two can be considered more powerful.

Design and interior

The design of Duster is muscular and off-roader style. Bold grille, LED lights, 212 mm ground clearance and strong road presence. It gives an adventurous look. The design of Elevate is sleek, premium and city-suitable. With smooth lines, attractive profile and 220 mm ground clearance, the Duster is better suited for rough terrain, while the Elevate is stylish for family use.

The interior of Duster is modern. It gets good space with dual screens (10.1-inch touchscreen + 10.25-inch driver display), panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, ambient lighting and large boot space (518 litres). At the same time, the cabin of Elevate has a premium feel. Apart from being spacious and comfortable, it gets good quality materials, sunroof and 458 liters of boot.

Features and safety

Both have connected car tech, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and climate control. Duster gets Google integration, multi-color ambient lighting and more drive modes. The Elevate has strong features like Level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance), ventilated seats and lane watch camera.

The Duster seems feature-packed, but the Elevate's ADAS is more advanced. 6 airbags are standard in both. Front, side and rear parking sensors are available in Duster. The Elevate has achieved a 5-star rating in JNCAP and Honda Sensing ADAS provides better safety. Both are safe, but the crash safety of Elevate is proven. It is expected that Duster will also get full 5-stars in the crash test.

Engine and Mileage

As told earlier, the Duster has multiple engine options: 1.0L Turbo (100 PS, 160 Nm, MT), 1.3L Turbo (163 PS, 280 Nm, MT/DCT) and hybrid variants. It is powerful, especially the 1.3L has strong performance. Its ARAI mileage ranges from 17.75-18.45 kmpl. Only 1.5L NA petrol (121 PS, 145 Nm) engine will be available in Elevate, which can be purchased with MT or CVT. Its claimed mileage is around 16.92 kmpl. The Duster offers more power and better mileage, while the Elevate is easier to drive and quieter.

Tata vs Mahindra: Whose SUV is more powerful? Know

Tata vs Mahindra: Whose SUV is more powerful? Know

Tata vs Mahindra: Whenever there is talk of powerful and safe SUVs in the Indian auto market, the names of Tata Motors and Mahindra come first. Both these companies are proving their strength not only in India but also globally. While Tata is known for its vehicles' exceptional build quality, 5-star safety rating and premium features, Mahindra is famous for its “rough and tough” image, powerful diesel engines and off-road capability.

In the year 2026, the competition between these two giants has become even tougher, because now the fight is not only about iron strength but also about advanced technology and electric avatar. If you are planning to buy a domestic SUV, then this article of ours is useful for you. We will know which vehicle of both the companies has the upper hand in terms of performance, design, road presence, safety and features.

Whose engine is more powerful?

Mahindra has always been one step ahead in terms of power. The mStallion petrol and mHawk diesel engines found in Mahindra's SUVs like Scorpio-N and XUV700 (XUV 7XO) generate the highest torque and power in their segment. For example, the diesel engine of XUV 7XO produces around 182 bhp of power and 450 Nm of torque, which makes it the best SUV on highways and in the mountains.

On the other hand, Tata Motors focuses more on smooth driving and efficiency. The same 2.0 liter Kryotech diesel engine is available in Tata Safari and Harrier, which gives power of 168 bhp. Although it is a little behind Mahindra in terms of power, the handling and ride quality of Tata vehicles are considered more comfortable in city traffic and long journeys.

Design and road presence

Mahindra's design philosophy is 'muscular'. Their vehicles create 'dominance' while moving on the road. Due to high seating and boxy design, it gives the feeling of real SUV. At the same time, Tata's vehicles are based on 'Impact Design 2.0', which gives them a modern, sporty and sleek look. Tata Curve (Curvv) and the new Safari look futuristic due to their connected LED lighting.

Safety and features

Tata Motors has brought a revolution in India in terms of safety. Tata Nexon, Harrier and Safari have all achieved 5-star ratings in Global NCAP and India NCAP. Features like ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) and 7 airbags are now being included as standard in Tata vehicles.

Mahindra has also changed its security strategy. XUV700 and Scorpio-N have also received 5-star rating. In terms of features, Mahindra's big screen, panoramic sunroof and smart features like 'Skydrive' attract the youth a lot. If you want a premium sound system and a luxury cabin, then Tata's Harman Kardon and JBL setup is unmatched.

Who is ahead in the EV race?

The EV segment is a major turning point in 2026. Tata Motors has captured more than 70% of the market with its Nexon EV, Punch EV and the new Curvv EV. Tata's range and charging network is currently much better than Mahindra. Mahindra's XUV400 and Born Electric series are also quite impressive, but vehicles on Tata's Actiev.ev platform are currently selling more.

What would be the best option for you?

The choice depends on your need and driving style. Let us know whose car can prove to be more beneficial for which needs-

  • Off-Roading and Power: If you have to travel on bad roads and engine power matters most, then Mahindra is best. (Scorpio-N, Thar, XUV 7XO)
  • Family Safety and Comfort: If your priority is family safety, great music and luxury ride, then Tata is fine. (Safari, Harrier, Nexon)
  • City driving and mileage: If you mostly drive in the city and want petrol/CNG or EV, then Tata is a good option. (Nexon CNG/EV, Punch)
  • Big Family (7-seater): If you want more space and great strength in the third row, then Mahindra is the best. (Scorpio-N, XUV 7X0, XUV 9e)
