hatchback or sedan under ₹10 lakh? Know who is better

The budget of ₹10 lakh is considered a 'sweet spot' in the Indian automobile market. In this budget, customers have many options to choose vehicles with excellent features, strong performance and safety. But the biggest confusion arises when you have to choose between a premium hatchback and a compact sedan.

Both the vehicles have their own merits and demerits. Often people get confused as to which car will be perfect for them according to the heavy daily traffic and family needs. If you are also in the same dilemma, then this news is for you. Let us compare both on the parameters of city traffic, boot space, family size and comfort, so that you can take the right decision for yourself.

City traffic and parking tension

If you live in a metropolitan city like Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru, where there is bumper-to-bumper traffic and severe shortage of parking, then a premium hatchback (like Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20) can prove to be a boon for you.

  • Benefit: The hatchback has a smaller size and less turning radius. It is very easy to turn in narrow streets and park in small spaces.
  • Loss: Compact sedans (eg Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze) are slightly longer in length, which may make changing lanes frequently in heavy traffic or parking in narrow spaces a bit difficult.

Family size and travel comfort

  • Long Trip and Boot Space: If you have a family of 4 to 5 people and you often go out on weekends, then a compact sedan is the best. In this you get an excellent boot space (dicky) of 350 to 400 litres, in which heavy suitcases can easily fit.
  • Cabin Space: The wheelbase of today's premium hatchbacks is also quite good, due to which the passengers sitting inside do not lack legroom. But after seating five people, there is very little space left for luggage in the hatchback.

Resale value and mileage

Both segments are almost on par in terms of mileage, as both often use the same engine (usually 1.2-litre petrol). However, in the Indian market, the resale value of a compact sedan like Maruti Dezire is slightly better or equal to that of a premium hatchback. From the table given below you can understand which of the two will be best-

Parameters premium hatchback compact sedan
Best Suitability For heavy traffic and daily commute For family trips and long drives
Boot Space (Dicky) Low (about 250-310 litres) More (about 350-420 litres)
Parking and Handling Extreme ease and flexibility a little caution needed
Look and status sporty and modern Classic and 'big car' feel
Popular Option Maruti Baleno,Hyundai i20 Maruti Dzire,Honda Amaze

Final Verdict: What's best for you?

Choose a hatchback if most of your travels are in heavy city traffic, you have a small family and you have to deal with parking problems. Choose a compact sedan if you want the feel of a big car, frequently go on family tours and need large boot space to carry heavy luggage.

Is the tire punctured or just deflated? Make correct identification like this in 2 minutes

Is the tire punctured or just deflated? Make correct identification like this in 2 minutes

Last Updated:

If the tire air suddenly starts decreasing while driving, then before panicking it is important to know whether the issue is of puncture or just air leakage? The symptoms of both the problems are different and correct identification can save you from huge expenses and road accidents. In this report, know the sure symptoms of tire puncture, easy ways to check at home and such important tips which every driver should know.

news immediately

Zoom

Identify the tire like this.

You are driving on the road and suddenly you feel that the tire is losing air. The question arises whether it is a puncture or just air has escaped? It is very important to understand this difference in everyday driving. Wrong decision not only wastes time but also increases the risk of life on the road. Puncture is usually caused by a nail, glass or any sharp object, while simple air leakage can be caused by a valve, tire wall or temperature change.

In a country like India where roads are bad and there is a lot of debris, this problem is common. With timely and correct identification, you can save a small problem from turning into a major accident. In this article we will explain in detail how to differentiate from symptoms, how to test with home methods and what steps to take next. With the right information, you will not only save money but will also be able to travel safely.

Find out like this

The tire goes flat rapidly due to puncture. If the pressure drops significantly within a few hours or minutes, the possibility of puncture is high. At the same time, the pressure gradually reduces only when the air comes out. If air comes out after several days or weeks, it is possible that there is a leakage at the puncture site.

A nail or pin can often be seen stuck in a punctured tyre. When air is released, no foreign part is visible in the sidewall of the tyre. In case of puncture, a 'thup-thup' sound or vibration may be felt while driving.

Easy home testing methods

  • Soap-water test: Spray soap solution on the tire valve, sidewall and tread. If bubbles form there is a leak. A large bubble or strong air will be visible in the puncture.
  • Listen for hissing sound: Listen near the tire. A loud whistling sound is a sign of puncture.
  • Pressure Check: Measure pressure in the morning and evening. If PSI drops by 5-8 in a day then puncture is possible.
  • Visual Inspection: Rotate the tire and take a good look. If any nail, stone or hole is visible then it is puncture.

What to do if there is a puncture

Stop the vehicle immediately and install the spare tyre. If the puncture is small, a temporary repair can be done with a puncture kit, but for long distances, a professional vulcanizer is necessary. Never travel more than 50-60 km with a punctured tyre.

preventive measures

Adopt regular pressure checks, good quality tires and careful driving. Check tires more often during the summer season because air expands due to heat. With these simple methods you will be able to differentiate easily and enjoy a safe journey.

Kia Sonet made in India got only 1-star! Open poll in Global NCAP test

Kia Sonet made in India got only 1-star! Open poll in Global NCAP test

The Kia Sonet SUV manufactured in India is exported to the South African market. Recently, the model had to undergo crash tests under Global NCAP's Safer Cars for Africa programme, where it received only a 1 star rating for adult occupant protection. These results have become a topic of discussion in the automobile industry, especially because it is made in India.

Only dual frontal airbags were standard in the tested variant. Advanced safety features like side chest airbags, side curtain airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), autonomous emergency braking (AEB) were not available or were optional. According to the test report, adult occupant protection got 21.29 out of 34 points and child occupant protection got 28.57 out of 49 points.

In the crash test, the stability of the body shell of the vehicle was found to be unstable, due to which higher risk was observed in the head, abdomen and pelvis area. Chest protection remained weak despite the presence of seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters. Child protection also remained below average.

Comparison with Indian variants

Six airbags are now standard across all variants of the Kia Sonet sold in India. Also ESC, Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Hill Assist Control (HAC) and other advanced safety systems are provided. The company says that the variant prepared for the Indian market is much safer than the South African model.

Kia Motors has issued a statement saying that the safety features were kept limited keeping in mind the needs and cost of the South African market. But in markets like India, customer safety is given priority.

Importance of Safer Cars for Africa Program

This test was conducted under the Safer Cars for Africa initiative, which aims to improve the safety level of affordable cars in African countries. According to Global NCAP, many automakers save costs by limiting basic safety features in developing markets, which can prove dangerous for passengers.

Auto experts believe that it is common to have different specifications for export markets, but this can affect the brand image. This is good news for Indian customers that the domestic variants are safer, but there is a need to pay attention to the safety of export models as well.

Kia Sonet is quite popular in the compact SUV segment in India. It is available with turbo petrol, diesel and hybrid options. The company has recently given many updates in the facelift model, in which the safety features have been strengthened. Its ex-showroom price starts at just ₹ 8 lakh.

90% people do not know the real truth of zero down payment offer! Know before you get stuck

90% people do not know the real truth of zero down payment offer! Know before you get stuck

Be it the festive season or the end of the year, the offer of 'Zero Down Payment' shines the most in the advertisements of car dealers. Who wouldn't be attracted by the dream of taking home a gleaming new car without keeping a single rupee in your pocket? For middle class families this offer seems like a lottery.

But there is a simple rule of the financial world, nothing comes for free. What you think is a 'great opportunity' without having to spend money out of pocket may actually be a well-planned trap to drain your pockets in the long run. Signing this deal without knowing the bitter truth hidden behind the glamor of the advertisement can cost you a lot. Let us try to find out what is the real truth behind it?

everything is not what it seems!

When a dealer says that you do not have to make a down payment, it does not mean that the price of the car has been reduced. This simply means that the bank is giving you a loan of 100% of the on-road price of the car.

In a normal loan, you pay 15% to 20% of the cost of the car yourself and take the rest as a loan. But with zero down payment, your loan amount (principal amount) becomes very big. The larger the loan, the higher will be the total interest charged on it. That is, you will return more money to the bank in the form of interest in the next 5 to 7 years than the money you are saving in the beginning.

Hidden troubles: processing fees and hefty interest

There are many financial complications behind this tempting offer, which dealers often hide in the fine print –

High interest rates: Banks consider giving loan without down payment as 'high risk'. To compensate for this risk, they charge 1% to 3% more interest than normal auto loans. This difference may seem small, but on a loan of 5-7 years it becomes an additional burden of lakhs of rupees.

Huge processing fees: 'Zero down payment' schemes often have very high processing fees and documentation charges. Many times dealers add this money to your EMI itself, due to which you may not realize it immediately, but your pocket keeps getting cut.

Mandatory Accessories and Insurance: To avail this offer, dealers often impose a condition that you will have to buy insurance and expensive accessories from them only, which are much more expensive than the market price.

Shock of 'depreciation'

As soon as a new car leaves the showroom, its resale value directly reduces by 10% to 15%. If you have taken a 100% loan, then in the first 2-3 years the situation is that the market value of your car is less than the amount of loan you have to repay to the bank. In financial language it is called 'upside-down loan'. If the car meets with an accident during this period or you want to sell it, your entire bank loan will not be repaid with the amount of the insurance claim.

How to avoid this trouble?

If you really want to save money, then keep these things in mind-

  • Must make 20% down payment: This will reduce your loan amount and you will get the loan at a lower interest rate.
  • Talk to the bank yourself: Go straight to the banks and compare their regular car loan with the dealer's offer.
  • Understand Total Cost: Write down from the dealer how much money (principal + total interest + fees) you will pay till the loan expires.

Summary: ''Zero down payment' is just a marketing tool. Buy a car only when you are in a position to make a decent down payment, so that your new car becomes a joyous ride and not the mental stress of debt.

Know the process of installing EV Charger at home.

With the increasing popularity of electric vehicles (EV), there is freedom from long queues at petrol pumps and expensive fuel. Now EV owners can easily install charging facility in their home parking itself. Under the government's subsidy schemes, it has become possible to install home EV chargers at low cost. This not only saves time but the cost of traveling per kilometer is many times less than petrol and diesel.

Schemes like PM E-DRIVE and initiatives of state governments are giving a boost to EV charging infrastructure. Experts say that home charger increases the battery life of EV and eliminates range anxiety. Know in this article how to get an EV charger installed at home at low cost and avail the subsidy. Come, let us understand the entire process.

What is EV charger and why is it necessary at home?

There are two types of EV chargers – AC (slow charger) and DC (fast charger). For home use the AC wall box charger is best suited, operating at 7-22 kW power. This is enough to fully charge a normal electric car overnight. Charging at home increases convenience instead of relying on petrol pumps or public charging stations. It is also environmentally friendly, as the EV can be charged with domestic solar energy, reducing dependence on coal-based electricity.

Home Installation Cost and Process

The total cost of installing an EV charger at home can range from ₹35,000 to ₹1.5 lakh, which includes the charger unit, cabling, breaker and installation. Many EV companies (like Tata, MG) offer free or subsidized installation with purchase. The process is simple. First get permission to increase load from DISCOM (electricity department), then get a site survey done by a certified installer. Installation takes 1-2 days. Safe earthing and dedicated meter are necessary. Up to 15 meters of cabling is often provided free.

How to avail government subsidy?

Subsidy on charging infrastructure is available under the Central Government's PM E-DRIVE scheme and FAME-II. In states like Delhi, one can get 100% subsidy up to ₹ 6,000 on domestic/apartment charging points. Many states have discounts ranging from 30-80%, low electricity tariffs and loan facilities. Apply on the online portal. Claim subsidy after installing the charger. There are additional incentives in states like MP, Karnataka, Maharashtra etc. This further reduces the effective cost.

Benefits and future prospects

Home charging can save up to ₹1,000-2,000 in monthly fuel expenses. EV batteries last 8-10 years and maintenance is less. The government aims to achieve mass EV adoption by 2030, so the charging network is expanding rapidly. By connecting with solar panels the electricity bill can be reduced to zero.

Precautions and Tips

Buy only certified (BIS/IS17017) charger. Seek professional help to avoid overload. There is also an option to install community charger in RWA or Society. Ask for installation package from the dealer before purchasing an EV. By installing an EV charger at home, you not only get convenience but also contribute to a green future. For more details check PM E-DRIVE portal or local DISCOM.

Buying a second hand car in the Indian automobile market is considered a very wise decision, provided you choose the right car. Often, while buying a used car, people only look at its current price and looks, but forget the most important aspect i.e. 'resale value'.

If you choose a strong sedan or hatchback from the second hand market which is always in demand, then you do not have to face huge financial loss on selling it even after using it for years. Some cars from companies like Maruti Suzuki, Honda and Hyundai retain their value even when old due to their excellent build quality, low maintenance costs and nationwide service network. Let us know about 3 such evergreen cars.

1. Maruti Suzuki Swift

Maruti Swift remains the first choice of Indian customers in the hatchback segment. This car with sporty design and strong mileage gets sold instantly as soon as it comes in the second hand market.
