Scorpio, Duster collision
The Creta was launched on 21 July 2015 (Rs 8.6 lakh to Rs 13.6 lakh) and attracted buyers from Reno Duster to Mahindra Scorpio and Ford EcoSport. By the end of that calendar year, it sold 40,888 units, ie more than 8,000 units every month. For comparison, the Duster sold an average of 1,500 units per month that year, Scorpio sold 5,000 units and EcoSport sold at about 3,500 units.
But this was just the beginning. In 2016, sales increased to 92,926 units; In 2017, it became 105,484 units; And in 2018 it reached 120,905 units (ie more than 10,000 units every month). Creta's boom was finally slowed by Kia Celtose in 2019 – a year when Creta sales came to 99,736 units. This was also the year when the car market had fallen by 13%. One of the reasons for its success was Hyundai's PB platform, which also gave the basis to the then Elite I20 hatchback and Verna sedan, and therefore gave driving experiences like Crea, an SUV, sedan, which led to customers attracted which used to choose sedans like Honda City or Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.

In January 2024, it received a facelift, and in March, the Creta N Line came back. Sales increased again, and it became India's fifth largest selling car, which sold 186,919 units. From 2015 to 2025, the number of competitors of Creta has increased to about a dozen from two Dusters and Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, but despite this, sales are increasing, and the Creta is expected to cross the 200,000 units in 2025.
