Suzuki to focus on vehicles with biogas fuel for India, showcases WagonR CBG

Suzuki to focus on vehicles with biogas fuel for India, showcases WagonR CBG

Japanese auto giant Suzuki has showcased a new WagonR at the Japan Auto Show which is powered by compressed biogas, or CBG. First showcased at the G7 Summit in Hiroshima in May this year, the WagonR CBG highlights the Japanese carmaker’s intention of using alternative energy, other than electricity, to power vehicles while attaining carbon neutrality by ditching petrol or diesel. Toshihiro Suzuki, CEO of Suzuki Motor Corporation, highlighted the usefulness of cow manures to produce biogas as alternative fuel. He said India could play a key role in making Compressed Biogas mainstream.

Compressed Biogas (CBG) is made from decomposed organic waste like agricultural items, cow manure and even. The decomposed waste is refined through a process to reduce carbon dioxide and increase the methane content in the fuel. The process is somewhat similar to the way Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is made. The difference is that for CNG, the source of the fuel is natural gas.

During his speech at the Japan Auto Show this week, Toshihiro Suzuki said massive amount of cow manure is potentially a gold mine to generate Compressed Biogas. He said, “It is said that there are about 300 million cows in India. Do you all know? One day’s worth of cow dung from 10 cows is enough fuel to power one car for one day. From this basic point of view, we have developed the WagonR that runs on purified biogas.”

Suzuki also said that to achieve true carbon neutrality, the auto industry should look beyond electric vehicles and venture into alternative fuel like CNG and CBG. Suzuki’s plans to use CBG as alternative fuel for its vehicles is not new. The carmaker had earlier signed a deal with Banas Dairy and the National Dairy Development Board to setup a biogas production plant in Gujarat. In the next three years, Suzuki aims to set up around four biogas facilities at an investment of up to 230 crore.

The CBG version of the WagonR hatchback is unlikely to hit Indian shores anytime soon. Maruti Suzuki sells the CNG version of the hatchback besides the regular petrol version. There are also talks of an electric avatar of the boxy WagonR in near future.

With pollution spiked, Delhi to see return of Red Light on, Gaadi Off campaign

With pollution spiked, Delhi to see return of Red Light on, Gaadi Off campaign

Delhi is all set to see the return of ‘Red Light on, Gaadi Off’ campaign this season as pollution level in the national capital continues to increase ahead of Diwali festival. Gopal Rai, Environment Minister of Delhi said that the state government is planning to bring back the campaign that aims to reduce vehicular pollution in the national capital region. Delhi and the neighbouring region have already implemented the Graded Response Action Plan or GRAP to reduce polluting vehicles from plying in the city. The government plans stricter action in coming days to keep pollution under check.

The ‘Red Light on, Gaadi Off’ campaign was first launched in 2020 to reduce vehicular pollution as part of the15-point action plan to curb air pollution in Delhi. Earlier, before Covid years, Delhi government resorted to odd-even scheme under which private vehicles with registration plates ending in odd and even numbers were allowed to ply on every alternate days to reduce pollution.

Speaking on bringing back the ‘Red Light on, Gaadi Off’ campaign, Gopal Rai said, “One of the major causes of pollution in the national capital is traffic. To reduce the overall pollution in Delhi, we’ve had to decrease the vehicle pollution. Thus, we are introducing a ‘Red Light on, Gaadi Off’ campaign to create awareness among the public to curb vehicle pollution. In the next phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), eco-friendly bus service will be started. The work to introduce this bus service has already begun.”

The ‘Red Light on, Gaadi Off’ campaign promotes saving precious fuel as well as keep pollution levels in check. Drivers are encouraged to turn off their engines while waiting at traffic signals.

The national capital recorded ‘poor’ air quality on Thursday with the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 256. According to SAFAR-India, the air quality around Delhi University recorded ‘very poor’ clocking 316 AQI in the morning. Noida, Delhi’s neighbouring satellite city, recorded ‘poor’ air quality with AQI hovering at 269 while Gurugram was ‘moderate’ at 176 AQI.

Yoichi Miyazaki, Executive Vice President and Board Member at Toyota Motor Corporation, said the company is reaching full plant capacity utilisation in India. Toyota, which operates jointly with Bengaluru-based Kirloskar Group in India, uses two of its facilities in Karnataka. The two plants have an overall production capacity of 3.42 lakh units per year.

Miyazaki said, “We have started a discussion (on the matter). After Covid, the market recovery is very strong (in India) in comparison to other countries so we believe demand itself is very strong in India.” Toyota is also planning a third facility in India to address rising demands and long waiting periods on its models. Miyazaki said demands for bigger cars in India is seen as a good sign by the Japanese auto giant. “With the strength of higher segments going up in the Indian market, it tells us it is now Toyota’s time,” he said.

Renault CMF platform for India, launch details

Renault CMF platform for India, launch details

New modular platform will underpin five new models that will be produced from four production hubs, including India.

At the presentation of its ‘New International Gameplan 2027’ in Brazil, Renault announced two platforms that it says will form the basis of its new plan for regions outside Europe. Speaking at the event, Fabrice Cambolive, global CEO of Renault said that the platforms will underpin eight new models. All these models will be produced and launched outside Europe, with the last one scheduled to arrive no later than 2027.

Fully Flexible Platform

Curiously, Renault refrained from labelling the platform headed to India, with Renault brand product performance VP, Bruno Vanel, only describing it as “a fully new Renault group modular platform that will be used in four hubs beyond Europe.” The first market would be Latin America, followed by Turkey, Morocco and India.

Speaking about this platform, Vanel said, “It is scalable and flexible and capable of accommodating vehicles with a length between 4-5 metres, with four possible wheelbases from 2.6-3 metres. The platform is also capable of accepting a wide range of powertrains, including ICE (gasoline and diesel), flex-fuel, LPG, 48V hybrid and full-hybrid too. It would also offer two- and four-wheel-drive capability.”

CMA platform

The second platform is the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform, which will be localised in South Korea in partnership with Geely and will be used to develop D- and E-segment vehicles. Renault also used the event to showcase two vehicles based on the new flexible platform; the Niagara Concept pickup and the Kardian SUV.

Niagara Concept Pickup

The Niagara concept pickup is scheduled to go into production ‘no later than 2027’. It is 4.9 metres in length, powered by a new E-tech hybrid 4X4 powertrain, comprising of a 48V mild-hybrid engine that powers the front axle, with an extra electric motor on the rear axle.

Renault Kardian SUV

The Renault Kardian SUV is the first of the eight new models announced and will debut a new 3-cylinder, 1.0-litre turbocharged gasoline direct injection motor that’s derived from the brand’s larger 1.3 litre unit.

‘New International Gameplan 2027’

Renault’s new international gameplan will see the French carmaker invest 3 billion Euros in the next four to five years. This is a part of what the brand is calling its ‘Renaulution’, where it aims to double its net revenue per unit sold outside Europe in 2027, when compared with 2019. It also says that one out of every three Renault cars sold outside Europe will either be hybrid or electric. Renault is currently present in 80 countries with 40 percent of its sales coming from outside of Europe.

‘Red Light On, Gaadi Off’ comes back to Delhi; to start from October 26

‘Red Light On, Gaadi Off’ comes back to Delhi; to start from October 26

As the overall air quality index of the national capital deteriorates, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has announced that the ‘Red Light On, Gaadi Off’ campaign will make a comeback from October 26. Like the previous editions, the campaign aims to reduce air pollution in the city by encouraging commuters to turn off their engines when waiting at red lights.

A picture from previous edition of the anti-pollution campaign in Delhi. (ANI)

The campaign was first launched in 2020 to reduce vehicular pollution as part of the15-point action plan to curb air pollution in the winter season across the city. A PTI report earlier informed that based on government estimates, the transport sector is responsible for 28 per cent of the PM2.5 emissions in the city. The vehicular contribution also makes up 80 per cent of nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide in Delhi’s air.

Also Read : Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan flyover extension, sans traffic signals, inaugurated

The report also quoted data from the Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), which shows that if people switch off engines at traffic signals, pollution can be cut down by 13 to 20 per cent.

Rai also informed that the odd-even vehicle rationing system is not being considered at the moment. Under the scheme, private vehicles with registration plates ending in odd numbers ply in the capital on odd dates while those with even numbers ply on even dates.

The Environment ministry has put into force the phase two of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to tackle “very poor” air quality of the city. Special teams will be deputed to identify and inspect local sources of pollution to that the government can work on the root cause of the issue.

The overall air quality in the national capital on Monday morning was recorded in the ‘Very Poor category’, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 306 against 302 recorded on Sunday afternoon, as per SAFAR-India.

Toyota Land Cruiser Prado price, India launch details, yoke steering wheel

Toyota Land Cruiser Prado price, India launch details, yoke steering wheel

Called Neo Steer by Toyota, this tech facilitates hand-operated driving and negates the need of foot-operated pedals.

Toyota will have an army of concept and production cars at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show, also known as Tokyo Motor Show 2023. The brand will also showcase NEO Steer – a yoke-style steering device instead of the traditional round steering wheel. This tech will be seen on the recently unveiled Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV that will be on display at the event.

  1. Neo Steer by Toyota to debut at Tokyo Motor Show
  2. Will be displayed on the new Land Cruiser Prado SUV
  3. Lexus RZ SUV gets yoke-like steering by wire tech

Neo Steer by Toyota: what is it?

The Neo Steer takes inspiration from motorcycle handlebars by integrating the controls for acceleration and braking into the steering wheel, which eliminates the need for pedals as well. This yoke-style steering facilitates hand-operating driving, which means the SUV can also be driven by drivers with lower limb impairments.

On the yoke, the newly gained controls are mounted on the right side. They replace the acceleration and brake pedals, thus allowing drivers to enter/exit the vehicle with ease.

This is not the first time Toyota has equipped its vehicle from the factory with a yoke-like setup.  Toyota’s luxury brand Lexus has introduced the ‘Steer by wire’ tech in the RZ EV SUV, which is essentially a Lexus version of the popular Toyota bZ4X SUV. The steer-by-wire tech on the Lexus RZ is offered as an alternative to the traditional steering wheel and has a similar yoke-style device.

What else is Toyota showing at the event?

Toyota will bring a fresh concept previewing an all-electric Land Cruiser Se SUV. Additionally, there will be the Toyota FT-3E, another born-EV SUV concept, as well as a born-EV sportscar called the Toyota FT-Se. More production vehicles and concepts will be on display at Tokyo Motor Show 2023, which starts later this week.

Facelift Kia Carnival MPV images leaked; India launch in 2024

Facelift Kia Carnival MPV images leaked; India launch in 2024

The facelift version of the Kia Carnival MPV is all set to touch down in select markets across the world but ahead of its official debut, spy shots of the model have leaked online. The Kia Carnival is a three-row vehicle that has fared reasonably well in many markets but was discontinued in India earlier this year owing to lukewarm response.

The updated Kia Carnival will reportedly make its India comeback at some point in time in 2024 and could script a new chapter for the Koreans if its appealing exterior styling updates are an indication. The spy photos of the facelift Kia Carnival reveals an updated grille and lighting design on the face as well as a reworked tail light design that is more on the lines of what the updated Seltos now shows off.

The alloy design of Kia Carnival too has been updated while there is some interplay of chrome on the C-pillar and rear lip under the trunk. It is also being reported that the feature list inside the MPV will be extended significantly with many new additions that will take it closer to models that are otherwise classified as luxury offerings.

It is also expected that the new Kia Carnival will come with the addition of a hybrid powertrain although India is unlikely to get this option when the MPV comes calling here. A plethora of seating options, however, will likely continue.

Also Read : New Kia Sonet looks leaked ahead of global debut

The Kia Carnival was first introduced in India back in February of 2020 as an eager – and more luxurious – rival to the Toyota Innova Crysta. It did offer a whole lot of premium features and underlined the comfort factor even if its 2.2-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine was a little underwhelming in terms of performance. At launch, the Carnival MPV was priced at 24.95 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base Premium seven-seater option and the pricing wen tup to 33.95 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Limousine seven-seater variant. There was also Prestige seven and nine-seater variants.

But sales performance wasn’t quite up to the mark and Innova Crysta continued to rule the MPV segment with an iron hand. Even at present, the model remains a hot seller even though Invicto, its twin from the Maruti Suzuki stable, has entered the fray as well.

Tata Nexon facelift has been launched with significant design updates and an array of fresh features adding more appeal to the compact SUV, and re-energising its competition against Maruti Suzuki Brezza.

Both the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the Tata Nexon sit in a segment which is one of the most competitive categories in the Indian passenger vehicle market. With the rising demand for SUVs and crossovers over the last few years, several automakers have been aiming to grab a sizeable chunk of the Indian SUV segment with their products. However, both Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki have been able to grab a lot of attention from buyers thanks to their products like Nexon and Brezza respectively.

Here is a comparison between the Tata Nexon facelift and Maruti Suzuki Brezza, based on feature and safety

Specifications Comparison Tata Nexon Maruti Suzuki Brezza
Engine 1199.0 to 1497.0 cc 1462.0 cc
Transmission Manual & Automatic Manual & Automatic
Mileage N/A N/A

Tata Nexon facelift vs Maruti Suzuki Brezza: Feature

Both the Tata Nexon facelift and Maruti Suzuki Brezza come equipped with an array of features. The Brezza gets a blend of classic design elements with modern touches. It gets an analogue instrument cluster paired with modern features such as a HUD and a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system positioned at the centre top of the centre console.

Tata Motors, on the other hand, gets a fully digital instrument cluster, and a large 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Nexon facelift carries several design elements from the Tata Curvv concept. However, it appears more inclined towards digitalisation compared to the Maruti Suzuki Brezza.

Tata Nexon facelift vs Maruti Suzuki Brezza: Safety

Both the Tata Nexon facelift and Maruti Suzuki Brezza come equipped with a wide range of safety features including six airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, ISOFIX child seat mounting points etc. The Nexon pre-facelift version received a five-star safety rating in the Global NCAP crash test. While the facelifted version is yet to undergo such a crash test, expect it to come with a more advanced safety quotient, as Tata Motors has hinted.

On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza has not been subjected to either a Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP crash test so far. However, the pre-facelift model had scored a four-star rating on the Global NCAP crash test.

Tata Curvv SUV launch, powertrain, design, interior, EV and range

Tata Curvv SUV launch, powertrain, design, interior, EV and range

The Curvv EV will launch before the ICE model next year.

Over the past few months, the Tata Motors Curvv has been spied testing with heavy cladding to mask the shape of the vehicle. However, new spy shots now show the coupe-esque silhouette of the bodyshell.

  1. No rear quarter glass present, confirms coupe shape
  2. Turbo-petrol engine still undergoing development
  3. Curvv SUV could get a CNG powertrain

Tata Curvv design

The Curvv test mule in the spy image reveals a few new details, particularly the sloping rear roofline and absence of a rear quarter glass. This confirms the notchback shape that was present on the Auto Expo display vehicle earlier this year. The sloping roofline gives it a unique look when compared to the other SUVs that it will rival.

The alloy wheels are different from the ones that were on the Auto Expo display vehicle, however, this could just be for testing purposes. The SUV retains the same muscular proportions that were shown in the concept vehicle with the squared-off wheel arches and moulding on the side to give it an overall rugged look.

Tata Motors has incorporated the design language from the Curvv into its recent launches. This is visible on exterior bits such as the front LED strip, vertical headlamp positioning and even the sculpted bonnet. In the spy shots, the rear LED strip is not visible, but slim tail-lights can be seen on either side of the boot.

On the inside, the two-spoke steering wheel, new infotainment screen and digital driver’s display have also been adapted from the Curvv concept shown earlier and we expect the Curvv to retain these elements upon launch.

Tata Curvv powertrain

In spite of the exhaust pipe being visible, we cannot say what powertrain is being tested. The vehicle in the spy shots could be testing out the new turbo-petrol unit, a CNG powertrain, or it could even be an EV. Tata Motors has used fake exhaust pipes on EV test mules in the past.

Recently, at the launch of the Harrier and Safari facelifts, Shailesh Chandra, managing director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd, stated that the launch of the new petrol engine will take a while and, according to our sources, this was due to the development of the petrol motor proving to be a challenge.

In our previous report, we noticed a CNG button in a design sketch that was released by Tata Motors officially, hinting that the Curvv could also get a CNG powertrain.

Tata Motors had stated that they would launch the Curvv EV first, followed by the ICE models.

Tata Curvv SUV launch and rivals

We expect the electric Curvv SUV to be launched somewhere during the first half of 2024, with ICE powertrain following soon after. Upon launch, the Curvv will enter the populated midsize SUV segment and rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun

Uno Minda infotainment review: Adds Android Auto & Apple CarPlay wirelessly

Uno Minda infotainment review: Adds Android Auto & Apple CarPlay wirelessly

Infotainment systems have become a vital part of cars now. In the past few years, the infotainment system has developed significantly. Because of this, they have become an important factor when making a purchase decision when someone is buying a new car. However, there are still many old cars on the road which have a pretty basic infotainment system.

By: Paarth Khatri
| Updated on: 21 Oct 2023, 17:35 PM

The infotainment system measures 9 inches so it would be able to fit most cars. However, additional fitment might be required depending on the vehicle.

Yes, the after-market is full of infotainment systems but there are very few well-reputed companies that are offering an infotainment system. One such company is Uno Minda, they are best known for supplying parts to OEMs and they have been doing this for several years. Now, they are entering the market with a new infotainment system of their own. It is called WTUNES-649TAACP and yes it is a very typical infotainment name. However, we got to test this new system and here is our review of it.

Uno Minda WTUNES-649TAACP: Runs on Android

The infotainment system measures a good 9 inches so it is still within the driver’s reach. The system runs on an Android system which means that it can possibly run any application that can be used on an Android phone. It comes with a Play Store so the applications can be updated as well as new applications can be installed using Wi-Fi. Apart from this, there is split screen functionality on offer as well. Uno Minda uses a T5 processor so there are no lags or stutters throughout the user interface. It also has 4 GB RAM and 64 GB onboard storage. This means that it can multi-task quite easily and the on-board storage helps in case the driver wants to store a few media items on the system itself.

The latest update of Android Auto can run on a split screen. There can be Google Maps on one side and Spotify on the other. There are voice commands on offer as well.

Uno Minda WTUNES-649TAACP: Wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay

Honestly, most people will be using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay on the infotainment system. The best thing about the infotainment system is that it comes with Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This means that you need to set it up just once and the next time you start the vehicle, the Android Auto or Apple CarPlay is automatically connected and is ready to go. I tested only Android Auto and it worked fine for the most part, I only faced two issues. The first one is that the touch is not as responsive as the OEM systems while the other one is that the Google Maps do not change the theme automatically. Because of this, the light theme does get annoying while riding at night and vice versa.

Moreover, the manufacturer has configured the system to turn on the hotspot automatically. This might look like a small thing but there are few aftermarket players in which the driver needs to turn on the hotspot manually.

Android Auto also shows the notifications and the driver can hear them and reply to them as well. The music application shown below in the form of a bar so that the driver can change the music anytime he or she wants.

Uno Minda WTUNES-649TAACP: Audio quality

The manufacturer has equipped the infotainment system with a 36-band equalizer which also has presets. The audio quality of the system is also quite good. It also supports an amplifier and a sub-woofer, in case the person plans to fit them. Apart from this, there is also a setting for fader and balance.

Uno Minda WTUNES-649TAACP: Features

Uno Minda has added several features to the infotainment system. It comes with support for the 360-degree camera which will make parking in tight spots very easy if you get the cameras installed. You can also just use the front and rear cameras, it is not necessary to have all four cameras. Apart from this, the infotainment system also comes with in-built support for high-definition cameras. If your car has controls on the steering wheel then that can also connect to the system.

The infotainment system is based on Android so it can theoretically run most of the applications that are available on Google Play Store. There is FM/AM on offer as well.

Then there are some clever features such as the volume automatically lowering when the reverse gear is engaged. Moreover, the brightness automatically turns down and the backlit behind the buttons automatically turns on when the headlamps are switched on. The infotainment system comes with two USB ports that can be used to charge the mobile phone, connect a USB stick to transfer stuff or connect Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. However, we did notice that the battery would start falling while using these USB ports because they are not rated for high output.

Uno Minda WTUNES-649TAACP: Verdict

The MRP on the box of the unit is 34, 990. However, depending on the seller, there is a possibility that a person ends up paying less. One important thing to note is that the fitment of the system is not very simple. I had to get new housing for the AC vents so that the infotainment system would fit. However, this depends on the car that the person is using. Then there is the additional cost of the panel and fitting that a person might have to consider. Having said that, fitting an infotainment is a one-time job so if you are planning to keep a car for a long time and want the convenience of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, the WTUNES-649TAACP from Uno Minda is a great option.

New-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB breaks cover, India launch next year

New-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB breaks cover, India launch next year

Mercedes-Benz has pulled the wraps off the new-generation E-Class Long Wheelbase (LWB) in China, bringing more legroom and comfort to the popular luxury saloon. The sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class made its global debut earlier this year for global markets, while the latest E-Class LWB (internal codename V214) will be sold in select markets. However, this version holds more context for India as Mercedes retails the long-wheelbase E-Class here. India was the first right-hand drive market to get E-Class LWB.

The 2024 Mercedes Benz E Class LWB gets 18 mm of additional length, of which 15 mm goes into the wheelbase

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB measures 5,092 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width and 1,493 mm in height. The wheelbase stands at 3,094 mm. This makes it 18 mm longer and 20 mm wider than the outgoing model. The 15 mm longer wheelbase contributes majorly to the 18 mm increase in length.

The cabin and features remain the same on the 2024 E-Class LWB barring the reclining seats and ottoman feature for the rear occupants

The new-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB looks identical to the standard wheelbase version. The obvious difference is the elongated rear door with a quarter glass positioned behind the rear door, as against being integrated into the rear door with the rear window. The longer wheelbase brings more legroom and knee room to the E-Class LWB, while the cabin will carry over the same interior trims and features from the standard version. The China-spec version gets powered reclining rear seats with an ottoman function, which should make its way to India.

The sedan also gets an ambient lighting system wrapping the rear seats, while the rear headrests get a neck heating function and a ‘Boss’ button, which lets the rear seat passenger slide and fold the front passenger for even more room. The rear centre armrest also gets a wireless charging pad for two phones.

Familiar bits include the Superscreen with three integrated screens – a 12.2-inch digital console, a 14.4-inch infotainment unit and a third screen for the passenger. That said, it needs to be seen if this feature will make its way to the Indian market. The new-gen E-Class goes big on tech and gets the third-generation MBUX operating system. The international-spec version uses artificial intelligence to automate certain comfort-oriented functions.

China will get a six-cylinder petrol engine on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB but India can expect the six-cylinder diesel to be the mainstay here with the 350d. The automaker will also offer a four-cylinder petrol, while a four-cylinder diesel will be available on the lower variants. The E-Class LWB also gets an air suspension and a rear-wheel-steering system that can turn the rear wheels by up to 4.5 degrees.

Australia MotoGP results: Johann Zarco wins as Martin misses podium

Australia MotoGP results: Johann Zarco wins as Martin misses podium

It was an all-Ducati podium, with Francesco Bagnaia and Fabio Di Giannantonio second and third, respectively.

Phillip Island never disappoints and this year’s Australian GP victory seemed to be a foregone conclusion right until some last lap drama surrounding Jorge Martin. With his pace dropping significantly due to fading grip from a worn soft rear tyre, teammate Johann Zarco seized the opportunity and took his first-ever MotoGP victory.

Current championship leader Francesco Bagnaia finished second and Fabio Di Giannantonio took his first-ever MotoGP podium by rounding out the podium.

  1. Bagnaia leads by 27 points
  2. Martin finishes fifth
  3. Zarco takes first win since Valencia 2016

Martin’s tyre troubles fortuitous for other Ducatis

For much of this race, Martin led with an over 3 secs advantage to the rider behind. But ultimately his fading soft rear tyre just wasn’t able to hold up and his teammate Zarco took the win.

Current world champion Bagnaia was also quick to inflict as much damage as he could to Martin’s title aspirations and followed Zarco through to take second place. Fabio Di Giannantonio took his first MotoGP podium, despite not having a confirmed seat on the grid next year, on the year-old Desmosedici GP22.

2023 MotoGP world championship standings

As it stands today, Bagnaia still leads the standings with a 27 point advantage over Martin with Bezzecchi still in third place overall.

Next weekend, the MotoGP championship heads to Thailand so keep watching this space for the latest updates.
