Maruti Suzuki Dezire won the title of best-selling car in 2025 by selling 2.14 lakh units, while Creta and Tata Nexon lagged behind in the SUV segment. These sales figures are very special for Dezire because these days there is a huge demand for SUV cars in India. In such a situation, it is very special in itself for a sedan model to become a bestseller.

New Delhi. Maruti Suzuki has won the SUV segment at a time when SUV cars were at the peak of their power in the market. The compact sedan has won the title of best-selling car in the calendar year 2025, while SUVs have been the first choice of buyers in the market. This is considered a big achievement for the model, because it came at a time when SUV cars were dominating the market trends and had the largest market share. 30 percent of Maruti Suzuki's total sales come from SUVs. At the same time, SUV body type has captured 55 percent of the total passenger vehicle market.

2.14 lakh units of Dezire
If we talk about figures, Maruti Suzuki Dezire has topped the list of best-selling models with sales of 2.14 lakh units. This was followed by Creta in the SUV segment, which sold 2.01 lakh units, and Tata Nexon also recorded sales of 2.01 lakh units. Maruti Suzuki WagonR and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga were at fourth and fifth position. WagonR sold 1.94 lakh units, while Ertiga sold 1.92 lakh units.

Family's first choice
Maruti Suzuki Dezire has always been a favorite among family buyers and is also very popular among fleet operators under the Tour S variant. Dezire's strong features have played an important role in attracting family customers. Its latest generation model was launched in late 2024, due to which it remained relevant in the market and was successful in creating its own identity apart from the Swift hatchback. It is also special that the new generation Dezire is continuously leaving behind its nearest rivals in the segment – Hyundai Aura and the new Honda Amaze in sales.

changing automobile market
These figures show a big change in the Indian automobile market. Even though the SUV segment still accounts for more than half of total industry sales, the most popular model remains a compact sedan, reflecting the importance of value, efficiency and ownership costs in consumer purchasing decisions. Additionally, the company said that its hatchback segment cars have also contributed significantly to the total sales. Baleno became the best-selling model in December 2025 with sales of 22,108 units, thereby maintaining customer interest in the premium hatchback segment even though the market is dominated by SUVs.

Mini segment market share
Maruti Suzuki said that the recovery in the entry-level and compact segments has been possible due to increased affordability and better financing options after GST adjustment. The mini segment now accounts for 6.2 percent of total sales, with new buyers coming into the market once again.

Mahindra came out 'Dhurandhar' in December! Sold record breaking cars, Tata-Hyundai kept watching the show

New Delhi. Mahindra & Mahindra recorded excellent sales in the domestic market in the last month of 2025. During this period, sales of passenger vehicles stood at 50,946 units, which is 23 percent more than in December 2024. Last year in the same month the company had delivered 41,424 units. However, there has been a slight decline in sales (56,336 units) compared to November 2025. Demand for SUVs like Scorpio range, Thar, XUV700, XUV3XO and Bolero range remained consistent, which also contributed to better supply and favorable taxation. Total sales of passenger vehicles during April to December FY26 stood at 4,76,476 units, whereas in the same period last year this figure was 4,02,360 units, i.e. an increase of 18 percent on an annual basis.

Company in strong position in the segment
It is clear from the continuous demand for SUVs that Mahindra is in a strong position in those segments where buyers' preferences are inclined towards high ground clearance, powerful looks and multiple powertrain options. Mahindra's results in commercial vehicles were mixed. Sales of light commercial vehicles weighing less than two tonnes stood at 2,720 units in December, which is 13 percent more than last year.

4% decline in this segment
However, sales in this category have declined by 4 percent since the beginning of the year. The company performed brilliantly in the LCV segment between two tonnes to three and a half tonnes. Sales of this segment increased by 37 percent to 22,066 units in December, while total sales in FY26 so far increased by 16 percent to 1,85,012 units. Three-wheelers, including electric vehicles, also performed well.

Sales increased by 31%
Mahindra sold 7,538 units last month, which is 31 percent more on an annual basis. In the current financial year, three-wheeler sales have increased by 28 percent to 82,446 units. Talking about the passenger vehicle range, the entry of XEV 9e and BE 6 as well as updated three-door Thar, Bolero and Bolero Neo will increase the total sales in 2025. The domestic company has achieved the second position in terms of sales, after Maruti Suzuki. This time, Mahindra has achieved the runner-up position in annual sales for the first time, leaving behind Tata Motors and Hyundai. Maintaining this momentum, Mahindra is preparing to further expand its SUV range in 2026. XUV 7XO will be launched on January 5. After this, many new and updated models will be introduced in different segments throughout the year.

Duster preparing for a spectacular 'comeback' in the Indian market, will make grand entry in the market after 25 days

New Delhi. Renault will launch the new Duster in India on 26 January 2026. As the launch date approaches, glimpses of the new Duster are being seen several times during its testing. Now the latest spy images have revealed fresh details about this much awaited SUV. The comeback of Duster in the Indian market is also special because it is considered to be India's first compact SUV. SUVs like Nexon and Creta also came into the market after this. The new spy shots show that the front design of the Duster and many major body panels are clearly visible, from which its final look can be estimated. New look and updated features can be seen in the new Duster being introduced to compete with Hyundai Creta, which may again increase people's interest in Renault's SUV lineup.

What was seen in the spy shots?
In the new spy shots, the Duster is seen parked on the roadside in Tamil Nadu with heavy camouflage. The front, side and rear of the SUV are visible in these pictures, whose stance and silhouette are very similar to the international variant. However, India-specific styling elements have been glimpsed in Renault's previously released teaser. While the global variant gets Y-shaped LED DRLs, the Indian version will get eyebrow-style DRL elements, which will clearly differentiate the two variants.

Confirmed Features
It has also been confirmed from Renault's teaser that the Duster coming to India will get a connected LED tail-lamp cluster, which is becoming quite popular in the Indian market these days. This feature is not available in the global variant, but this special design element will be seen in the SUV to be launched in India. Apart from this, new alloy wheel designs can also be seen, which will make the new Duster look more different from the international model and its look will look even more modern.

These features are also present
The rear profile of the new Renault Duster has a notched spoiler, which gives it a sporty look. The tailgate has also got a new design, in which the number plate holder is now given below the Renault badge. Other details include a shark-fin antenna, more inclined design of the rear windshield and a stronger bumper layout. The tail lamps are expected to have a Y-shaped signature, but it is difficult to confirm due to heavy camouflage. Interestingly, the prototype is seen fitted with small, temporary tail lamp units.

Multiple powertrain options
Talking about the specifications, the globally available Renault Duster has several powertrain options, such as a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with a 48V mild hybrid system, which gives a total power of 128.2 hp. Additionally, the 1.6-litre Strong Hybrid petrol engine comes with two electric motors, powered by a 1.2kWh battery and produces 138 hp of peak power. Additionally, a 1.0-litre petrol-LPG engine is also available, which generates power of 98.6 hp and powers all four wheels with a 6-speed transmission.

This SUV will dominate in 2025, 23 units sold every hour, bought by lakhs of customers throughout the year

This SUV will dominate in 2025, 23 units sold every hour, bought by lakhs of customers throughout the year

New Delhi. Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has set a new record in the mid-size SUV segment. The company's Creta SUV has achieved the highest annual sales of 2,00,000 units so far in the calendar year 2025. This means that on an average 550 Cretas are being sold every day, i.e. approximately 23 units every hour. Along with this, this SUV remains India's best-selling SUV from 2020 to 2025 with more than 34 percent market share.

10 years since launch
Celebrating ten years of its launch, Creta has registered a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of more than 9 percent between 2016 and 2025, while many new companies also entered the market during this period. This includes Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Skoda Kushaq and other models. In the coming times, competition is going to become even tougher with the launch of vehicles like Renault Duster.

changing preferences of customers
According to information released by the South Korean automaker, there has been a change in customer preferences. While the number of first-time car buyers was 13 percent in 2020, it has increased to 32 percent in 2025. At the same time, the sales of variants with sunroof are more than 70 percent of the total sales. The contribution of diesel powertrain was 44 percent.

Biggest Annual Sale
Commenting on the achievement, HMIL Managing Director and CEO Designate Tarun Garg said, “Hyundai Creta has had an extraordinary journey in India and achieving the highest ever annual sales of over 2 lakh units is a moment of pride and recognition for all of us.” Describing Creta as a “trusted companion on every journey”, he attributed its success to customers and dealers.

Why is Creta popular?
A major reason for the popularity of Creta is its many options. Customers can choose from different engine options, transmission types and even electric models. This flexibility gives buyers the opportunity to choose a vehicle as per their needs, rather than changing their needs depending on the vehicle.

Engine, Performance, Range
Creta comes with three engine options: naturally aspirated petrol, turbo petrol and diesel. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard with naturally aspirated petrol and diesel engines. For automatic lovers, there is the option of IVT in petrol engines and torque converter automatic in diesel. At the same time, the turbo petrol engine is available only with dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Creta Electric comes with two battery pack options: 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh, with a claimed range of 420 km and 510 km respectively.

Hyundai Price Hike 2026: Hyundai Motor India Limited has announced to increase the prices of all models by an average of 0.6 percent from January 1, 2026, Renault India, JSW MG Motor India and others will also increase the prices. The company has many popular cars in its portfolio like Creta, Exeter, i20. The price of all these cars is going to increase from today.

New Delhi. Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced an increase in the prices of all its models, which will be effective from January 1, 2026. The company has cited rising input costs as the main reason for this increase. In a regulatory filing given on Tuesday, HMIL said that on an average the prices will be increased by about 0.6 percent. This step has been taken to compensate for the continuously increasing inflation and increase in the cost of raw materials.

How much did the price of which model increase?
Although the company has not given information about the amount of increase according to different models, but this change will affect popular models like Creta SUV, Venue compact SUV, Exeter micro-SUV, Grand i10 Nios hatchback and Alcazar.

Why is the price increasing?
This is becoming a big trend in the Indian automobile sector, where many companies are increasing prices due to supply chain challenges and fluctuations in raw material prices. Renault India, a subsidiary of French automaker Renault Group, has also announced an increase of up to 2 percent in the prices of all its models from January 2026. Similarly, JSW MG Motor India and Mercedes-Benz India have also confirmed to increase the prices by 2 percent. The same trend is being seen with Honda Cars India, Nissan Motor India and BYD also.

Two-wheeler brands are also increasing prices
The same trend has been seen not only in car manufacturing companies but also in two-wheeler companies, where companies like BMW Motorrad, Triumph Motorcycles and Ather Energy have announced to increase the prices of their respective models. These companies have also cited the increase in input costs as the reason for this.

Less price hike than last year
Industry experts say that this time the increase is less than previous years, which indicates stability in demand and competition in the market. Hyundai is India's second largest car manufacturer in terms of sales, having sold more than 5.6 lakh units in 2025. Creta remains the leader in its segment, while Exeter is becoming increasingly popular in the entry-level segment.

Tata preparing to rule the electric car market, Avinya brand will change the whole game

Tata preparing to rule the electric car market, Avinya brand will change the whole game

New Delhi. Tata Motors has its eyes fixed on the premium market. The main attraction of the company's new electric vehicle lineup is now the Avinya brand, which will serve as the flagship offering after its launch late next year. The company plans to invest Rs 16,000 to 18,000 crore between financial years 2025 to 2030 to develop new products, platforms and support the growing electric ecosystem.

Also waiting for Sierra EV

The Sierra EV, which is due to arrive in early 2026, and the Punch EV, which is due to get a facelift soon, will act as a bridge between the mass-market and premium offerings of the Avinya series. Total sales of Nexon EV, Tiago EV, Punch EV, Harrier EV and Curve EV in India have crossed the 2.5 lakh units mark. Tata's electric range has played a key role in increasing volumes in the last five years, with the Nexon EV selling more than one lakh units. The first vehicle under the Avinya range will likely be an SUV or Sportback, followed by several other body styles.

Dealership and Digital Interface

Unlike the existing range, the company is preparing to adopt a blended sales approach for Tata Avinya models by combining physical dealerships and digital interfaces. Its rivals will be globally recognized electric models like Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Tesla Model Y and luxury entry-level EVs from German companies. Tata is being flexible in terms of technological development. The company has indicated that Avinya will not be limited to a single battery chemistry, but will also adopt options other than LFP in terms of range, safety, charging speed and packaging efficiency.

Target of 10 lakh charging points

Especially work is being done in areas like electrical architecture, safety systems and software integration. Tata aims to install 40,000 charging points under the open collaboration model by 2027. In the future plan, the company has set a vision to reach a total of ten lakh chargers including one lakh public charging points by the end of the decade.

Keep an eye on big market share

Tata says that more than 50 percent domestic value addition has been achieved at the Tier 3 supplier level, due to which the company is getting PLI benefits. Used EV batteries are also being used for renewable energy storage, thereby promoting the circular economy. At present, Tata Motors' EV market share is between 40 to 45 percent and the company is confident of taking it to 45 to 50 percent soon.

The magic of this company will rise in 2025, it will sell the maximum number of cars, defeating Tata-Mahindra

The magic of this company will rise in 2025, it will sell the maximum number of cars, defeating Tata-Mahindra

New Delhi. The Indian automobile industry witnessed a historic transformation in 2025, when Mahindra & Mahindra reached the second position in annual passenger vehicle sales. This achievement is a major breakthrough for the company, which has left behind Hyundai Motor India and Tata Motors, which have been present in the market for a long time. Becoming the runner-up clearly shows Mahindra's growing hold in the market, which is due to its growing SUV range and strong consumer demand.

Data received from vehicle portal

According to data from the government's vehicle portal, Mahindra made record sales of 5.81 lakh units till December 25, 2025. With this figure, the Mumbai based SUV specialist left behind Tata Motors (5.52 lakh units) and Hyundai (5.50 lakh units). This is the first time that a domestic manufacturer, which focuses only on utility vehicles, has overtaken companies that sell a variety of vehicles like hatchbacks and sedans. At the same time, Maruti Suzuki retained its market leader crown with 17.50 lakh units.

How Mahindra reached number 2

Mahindra reaching number two was not a coincidence, but it is the result of a thoughtfully made product strategy, which gained momentum in the beginning of 2025. While legacy models like the Scorpio-N, Scorpio Classic and Thar Rocks laid a strong foundation, the company's aggressive entry into the premium electric SUV segment gave it a decisive lead.

BE 6e and XEV 9e shine

Launched in early 2025, the BE 6e and XEV 9e together sold more than 38,000 units, giving Mahindra a major share in the Indian EV market. Their success justified Mahindra's big bet on INGLO electric architecture. Maintaining the same momentum, Mahindra launched the XEV 9S in November 2025, which is a flagship 7-seater electric SUV. Its price starts at Rs 19.95 lakh and it has features like 59-79 kWh battery option and triple-screen dashboard, which will further strengthen the company's position in 2026.

Tata Motors at number 3

Tata Motors secured the third position with 5.52 lakh units in 2025. The company made a tremendous comeback in the fourth quarter due to Curve and updated Nexon. Although Tata has a strong hold in the EV segment, the growth of internal combustion engine vehicles lagged behind Mahindra's double digit growth, which clearly shows the changing direction of the market. At the same time, Hyundai slipped to fourth place with sales of 5.50 lakh units in 2025.
