90% people do not know the real truth of zero down payment offer! Know before you get stuck

90% people do not know the real truth of zero down payment offer! Know before you get stuck

Be it the festive season or the end of the year, the offer of 'Zero Down Payment' shines the most in the advertisements of car dealers. Who wouldn't be attracted by the dream of taking home a gleaming new car without keeping a single rupee in your pocket? For middle class families this offer seems like a lottery.

But there is a simple rule of the financial world, nothing comes for free. What you think is a 'great opportunity' without having to spend money out of pocket may actually be a well-planned trap to drain your pockets in the long run. Signing this deal without knowing the bitter truth hidden behind the glamor of the advertisement can cost you a lot. Let us try to find out what is the real truth behind it?

everything is not what it seems!

When a dealer says that you do not have to make a down payment, it does not mean that the price of the car has been reduced. This simply means that the bank is giving you a loan of 100% of the on-road price of the car.

In a normal loan, you pay 15% to 20% of the cost of the car yourself and take the rest as a loan. But with zero down payment, your loan amount (principal amount) becomes very big. The larger the loan, the higher will be the total interest charged on it. That is, you will return more money to the bank in the form of interest in the next 5 to 7 years than the money you are saving in the beginning.

Hidden troubles: processing fees and hefty interest

There are many financial complications behind this tempting offer, which dealers often hide in the fine print –

High interest rates: Banks consider giving loan without down payment as 'high risk'. To compensate for this risk, they charge 1% to 3% more interest than normal auto loans. This difference may seem small, but on a loan of 5-7 years it becomes an additional burden of lakhs of rupees.

Huge processing fees: 'Zero down payment' schemes often have very high processing fees and documentation charges. Many times dealers add this money to your EMI itself, due to which you may not realize it immediately, but your pocket keeps getting cut.

Mandatory Accessories and Insurance: To avail this offer, dealers often impose a condition that you will have to buy insurance and expensive accessories from them only, which are much more expensive than the market price.

Shock of 'depreciation'

As soon as a new car leaves the showroom, its resale value directly reduces by 10% to 15%. If you have taken a 100% loan, then in the first 2-3 years the situation is that the market value of your car is less than the amount of loan you have to repay to the bank. In financial language it is called 'upside-down loan'. If the car meets with an accident during this period or you want to sell it, your entire bank loan will not be repaid with the amount of the insurance claim.

How to avoid this trouble?

If you really want to save money, then keep these things in mind-

  • Must make 20% down payment: This will reduce your loan amount and you will get the loan at a lower interest rate.
  • Talk to the bank yourself: Go straight to the banks and compare their regular car loan with the dealer's offer.
  • Understand Total Cost: Write down from the dealer how much money (principal + total interest + fees) you will pay till the loan expires.

Summary: ''Zero down payment' is just a marketing tool. Buy a car only when you are in a position to make a decent down payment, so that your new car becomes a joyous ride and not the mental stress of debt.

Know the process of installing EV Charger at home.

With the increasing popularity of electric vehicles (EV), there is freedom from long queues at petrol pumps and expensive fuel. Now EV owners can easily install charging facility in their home parking itself. Under the government's subsidy schemes, it has become possible to install home EV chargers at low cost. This not only saves time but the cost of traveling per kilometer is many times less than petrol and diesel.

Schemes like PM E-DRIVE and initiatives of state governments are giving a boost to EV charging infrastructure. Experts say that home charger increases the battery life of EV and eliminates range anxiety. Know in this article how to get an EV charger installed at home at low cost and avail the subsidy. Come, let us understand the entire process.

What is EV charger and why is it necessary at home?

There are two types of EV chargers – AC (slow charger) and DC (fast charger). For home use the AC wall box charger is best suited, operating at 7-22 kW power. This is enough to fully charge a normal electric car overnight. Charging at home increases convenience instead of relying on petrol pumps or public charging stations. It is also environmentally friendly, as the EV can be charged with domestic solar energy, reducing dependence on coal-based electricity.

Home Installation Cost and Process

The total cost of installing an EV charger at home can range from ₹35,000 to ₹1.5 lakh, which includes the charger unit, cabling, breaker and installation. Many EV companies (like Tata, MG) offer free or subsidized installation with purchase. The process is simple. First get permission to increase load from DISCOM (electricity department), then get a site survey done by a certified installer. Installation takes 1-2 days. Safe earthing and dedicated meter are necessary. Up to 15 meters of cabling is often provided free.

How to avail government subsidy?

Subsidy on charging infrastructure is available under the Central Government's PM E-DRIVE scheme and FAME-II. In states like Delhi, one can get 100% subsidy up to ₹ 6,000 on domestic/apartment charging points. Many states have discounts ranging from 30-80%, low electricity tariffs and loan facilities. Apply on the online portal. Claim subsidy after installing the charger. There are additional incentives in states like MP, Karnataka, Maharashtra etc. This further reduces the effective cost.

Benefits and future prospects

Home charging can save up to ₹1,000-2,000 in monthly fuel expenses. EV batteries last 8-10 years and maintenance is less. The government aims to achieve mass EV adoption by 2030, so the charging network is expanding rapidly. By connecting with solar panels the electricity bill can be reduced to zero.

Precautions and Tips

Buy only certified (BIS/IS17017) charger. Seek professional help to avoid overload. There is also an option to install community charger in RWA or Society. Ask for installation package from the dealer before purchasing an EV. By installing an EV charger at home, you not only get convenience but also contribute to a green future. For more details check PM E-DRIVE portal or local DISCOM.

Planning to buy EV? These SUVs with high ground clearance are the safest for monsoon

Monsoon season brings with it two big challenges on Indian roads. Waterlogging and deep pits. It is extremely difficult for conventional cars to deal with these conditions, especially when it comes to electric vehicles (EVs), where the battery pack fits under the vehicle. In such a situation, an electric SUV with high ground clearance emerges as the safest option.

There are now powerful electric vehicles available in India which are not only environment friendly, but their ground clearance is ready for any tough test. If you too are fed up of monsoon floods and bad roads, then three of the best SUVs from Mahindra and Tata can prove to be your most reliable companions. These vehicles have the ability to easily cross water-filled roads.

Mahindra XEV 9S

Mahindra's XEV 9S is a large and premium three-row electric SUV, which is fully capable of running on bad roads. It has three different battery options of 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh, which claim a tremendous range of 521 KM to 679 KM on a single charge. Its strong grip on water-filled roads and torque of 380 Nm make it very powerful.

Tata Harrier EV

Tata Harrier EV is known for its strong build quality and excellent road presence in the Indian market. This electric SUV has a high ground clearance of 205 mm, which helps in crossing heavily waterlogged monsoon roads and big potholes without any fear. Due to this, the lower part of the vehicle does not touch the ground or water easily.

The Harrier EV also has the option of all-wheel drive (AWD), which gives excellent grip to the wheels on muddy and slippery roads. It has two battery packs of 65 kWh and 75 kWh, which provide a range of approximately 538 km to 622 km. In difficult conditions, this Tata SUV offers a perfect combination of safety and performance.

Mahindra XEV 9e

Mahindra's XEV 9e is a very modern and sporty looking electric SUV-coupe. To deal with bad roads and waterlogging, the company has given it an excellent ground clearance of 207 mm. Its battery pack is also fitted at a height of 218 mm above the ground, due to which the risk of short circuit while walking in water is negligible.

This coupe style SUV comes with two powerful battery options of 59 kWh and 79 kWh, which are capable of giving a range of 522 km to 656 km. Its power output of up to 281.6 bhp and high-tech cabin design not only make it practical in conditions like floods, but also gives a great driving experience on the highway.
