No tension of petrol and diesel! Electric mini trucks will save thousands every month, understand the math.

No tension of petrol and diesel! Electric mini trucks will save thousands every month, understand the math.

Commercial Electric Vehicles (EV) have become the best option for small businessmen in India. Especially the electric versions of pickups like Chhota Hathi i.e. Tata Ace are proving to be a game-changer for small traders, delivery service providers and those working in last-mile logistics.

By using these EVs instead of traditional diesel or petrol pickups, delivery costs can be reduced by half or even more. This change is not only economically beneficial, but is also very important for the environment. If you are planning to buy a pickup truck in the coming days, then know how beneficial it will be to buy an EV pickup instead of diesel/petrol?

Electric incarnation of 'Chhota Haathi'

Tata Ace of Tata Motors is India's most popular mini-truck or pickup, which is also called small elephant. For decades, it has been a trusted partner of small traders in rural, urban and semi-urban areas. Now Tata has introduced it in electric form. These vehicles can carry a payload of up to 1000 kg, run 150-200 km on a single charge and are perfect for last-mile delivery.

This EV model is India's first four-wheeler electric cargo vehicle in the commercial category. It is quite different from traditional diesel pickups because of its 21-30 kW motor, 130 Nm torque and low maintenance. Small traders like grocery shopkeepers, vegetable/fruit sellers, e-commerce delivery partners, milk suppliers, fast food chains and local logistics people have now started adopting it.

How is delivery cost halved?

In a traditional diesel pickup (like the old Ace or other mini trucks), the biggest expense is fuel. The price of diesel is around ₹ 90-100 per liter and the average mileage is 15-20 km/liter. If a small businessman drives 80-100 km daily, he spends Rs 15,000-25,000 on fuel in a month.

On the other hand, the cost of charging in electric vehicles is very low. On domestic or commercial charging, electricity is available at ₹ 6-10 per unit. In a vehicle like Tata Ace EV, the cost per km is only ₹ 1-2. This means that if you drive 100 km daily, the charging cost will be only Rs 100-200. This reduces to Rs 3,000-6,000 in a month.

Apart from this there are many other benefits also. There is no problem with engine oil, filter, clutch or gearbox. EVs have 70-80% less moving parts, so servicing costs are less than half. There is also less wear and tear on tyres, brakes etc. Overall saving in operating cost (fuel + maintenance) can be up to 50-70%.

Benefits for small traders

Along with fleet offerers, EV pickup has benefited small traders the most. These may seem a bit expensive when purchased, but the upfront cost can be easily repaid in 3-5 years. Let us understand the benefits in different points.

  1. Lower total cost (TCO): Investment is recovered from EV savings in 5-7 years.
  2. Environmental protection: Zero emissions cleans the air of cities and reduces pollution.
  3. Government support: FAME scheme, subsidies, road tax exemption and low interest rate loans are available.
  4. Zero Noise: Due to less noise, delivery in residential areas is easy.
  5. Better Performance: Instant torque provides fast acceleration in city traffic.

What are the challenges?

Charging infrastructure for commercial EVs is currently limited, but home charging at night and increasing public chargers are reducing the problem. Battery prices will reduce further in the coming time, due to which the price of EV is going to become more attractive. Currently, Tata and Mahindra are two big players in the market, who are selling electric pickups.

Double the fun for half the price! 'Mini Fortuner' will make a spectacular entry with 4X4 engine

Toyota unveiled its new Land Cruiser FJ at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025. Now it is expected to be introduced in the Indian market soon. It is being known as 'Mini Fortuner' or 'Baby Land Cruiser'. This is the most compact and affordable model of the Land Cruiser family, which will come with a modern touch like the classic FJ Cruiser.

Built on the body-on-frame IMV platform, the SUV shares the same with its bigger siblings the Fortuner, HiLex and Innova Crysta. However, it is shorter (length 4575mm) and more off-road capable than the Fortuner. This is going to be a perfect vehicle for young adventure lovers, families and off-roading lovers. Let's take a look at the details revealed so far related to Toyota Land Cruiser FJ.

Design and dimensions

The exterior of the FJ is completely boxy, rugged and in the classic Land Cruiser style. With length 4575mm, width 1855mm, height 1960mm and wheelbase 2580mm, it looks smaller than the Fortuner but looks taller and stronger. High ground clearance (215mm), short overhangs, muscular body panels, wide wheel arches, C-shaped LED lights, bold front grille and side-opening tailgate mounted spare wheel give it an aggressive off-road look. AT tires are fitted on 17 inch alloy wheels.

Interior and Features

Its cabin is 5-seater, functional and durable. The rugged interior has a lot of physical buttons and knobs, which allow for ease of off-roading. Highlights include 12.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, fully digital instrument cluster, three-spoke steering, dual-zone climate control, good rear space and rear seat recline. For connectivity, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Toyota Connected Services will be available. Off-road features like Multi-Terrain Select, Hill Descent Control, 4×4 Mode Dial and good visibility will make driving fun. The cabin is not premium but hardy and practical.

Safety Features

Toyota's strength will be visible here also. Features like pre-collision system, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning along with Toyota Safety Sense (Level-2 ADAS) can be found in it. Also, 6-7 airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control, traction control, hill start assist, 360° camera, parking sensors and ISOFIX will be provided.

Engine and Performance

The main engine in it will be 2.7 liter petrol (2TR-FE), which gives 163 PS power and 246 Nm torque. It will offer a part-time 4×4 system (low-range gear) with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Later, 2.0 liter strong hybrid (about 184 PS) and plug-in hybrid options will also come. Performance will be balanced. This is going to be a great option for city, highway and light-heavy off-roading. Wheel articulation, approach angle and 215mm ground clearance will give it capabilities like Land Cruiser 70 Series. Mileage can be around 18-20 kmpl in hybrid.

Estimated price and launch date

The ex-showroom price of Land Cruiser FJ in India is expected to be between ₹25 to ₹35 lakh. Hybrid variants will be a bit expensive. It will be cheaper than the regular Fortuner (₹33 lakh+) but will offer the premium reliability of a Land Cruiser. Its production in India will start from August 2028 at Toyota's new Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Maharashtra) plant. Launch is possible in December 2028 or early 2029. These figures are approximate, official announcement is awaited.

Fancy Number Plate in Chandigarh

The auction of fancy vehicle number plates in Chandigarh has created a new record. Number plate CH01-DD-0001 was sold for ₹53.88 lakh in the e-auction conducted by the Registering and Licensing Authority (RL). This is the highest price of any vehicle number plate in the history of Chandigarh.

The auction ran from March 4 to March 6, 2026, and included the fancy and choice numbers of the new CH01-DD series (from 0001 to 9999) along with the leftover numbers from the previous series. A total of 591 numbers were sold and this brought a record income of ₹4.48 crore to RLA, which is the highest ever collection in a single auction in Chandigarh.

Lined up for CH01-DD-0001

Tremendous competition was seen for the number CH01-DD-0001. Being the top number of the 0001 series, it was very popular because people associate it with status symbol, luck and prestige. The previous record was for CH01-DA-0001 in August 2025 at ₹36.43 lakh, which was easily broken by this auction. Among other top numbers, CH01-DD-0003 was sold for ₹32.32 lakh and CH01-DD-0005 was also sold at a good price. See the complete list-

expensive car number

This number has been bought by former mayor and BJP leader Davesh Moudgil. He took it for his Toyota Fortuner Legender (which is worth around ₹50 lakh). The interesting thing is that the price of the number plate exceeded the price of the car. He told that it is a symbol of status and identity for him and he had wanted it for a long time.

Craze for fancy numbers in Chandigarh

In the last few years, the craze for fancy numbers has increased rapidly in Chandigarh. People prefer 0001, 9999, repeating numbers (like 7777, 1111) or easy-to-remember combinations. The e-auction process of RLA is transparent, wherein any registered person can bid online. The minimum reserve price usually starts at ₹50,000, but competition causes prices to skyrocket.

This incident reflects the growing popularity of the vehicle number plate market in India. VIP numbers are sold in crores in Delhi, Mumbai and other cities too, but this record of Chandigarh brings it to second place. The government treasury has benefited from this record collection of RLA and this fund can be used for transportation facilities.

Nissan Gravite vs Kia Carens: Work worth ₹10.50 lakhs being done for just 5.65 lakhs!

Nissan Gravite vs Kia Carens: Work worth ₹10.50 lakhs being done for just 5.65 lakhs!

Nissan Gravitas vs Kia Carens: Both Nissan Gravit and Kia Carens compete with each other in the MPV segment. However, both of them have been made keeping in mind different budgets and needs. On the price front, the Nissan Gravitas emerges as a very affordable 7-seater option, with a starting ex-showroom price of around ₹ 5.65 lakh.

At the same time, Kia Carens is a premium MPV, which starts at around ₹ 10.50 lakh. In terms of design, the Gravity is more practical for narrow city streets being less than 4 meters long and it gets Nissan's signature grille and modern LED lighting. In contrast, the Kia Carens is much longer and wider, with the longest wheelbase in its segment. Let us take a look at the cabin, features, safety, engine and mileage details of both.

Cabin and Comfort

Talking about interior and space, the biggest feature of Nissan Gravit is its removable third row, by removing which you can create additional boot space for heavy luggage. However, the cabin of the Kia Carens is more luxurious and made of premium materials, where passengers feel more legroom and luxury.

In terms of features, the Gravitas offers modern features like an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and a digital cluster, but the Carens wins here as it has high-end options like ventilated seats, a sunroof, a Bose music system and a smart air purifier.

Engine and Performance

Nissan Gravit has a 1.0 liter petrol engine, which is adequate for city driving and gives an excellent mileage of around 19-20 kmpl. At the same time, Kia Carens has 1.5 liter petrol and diesel engine options, which provide more power and better driving experience on the highway.

In terms of safety, both the vehicles are good, as both have features like 6 airbags, ESC and hill start assist as standard. If you want a smart 7-seater in a low budget then Gravit is the best. Apart from this, if you are looking for luxury and more power, then Carens would be a better choice. Before buying, definitely take a test drive of both of them.

Before buying a new SUV, understand which size is right for you.

Before buying a new SUV, understand which size is right for you.

Compact SUV vs Full-Size SUV: The craze for SUVs in India is increasing with time. The SUV segment is set to account for 65% of total car sales by 2026. Middle class families are now saying goodbye to hatchbacks and compact sedans and turning to SUVs, as these are the best options to meet their needs of high ground clearance, commanding driving position and family space.

In such a situation, the question is whether a compact SUV (like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Nexon) is better or a full-size SUV (like Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Scorpio N)? Narrow lanes of Indian roads, hours-long traffic jams, potholes, highways and the budget of the middle class. Keeping all this in mind, which one would be more profitable to buy? Let us know.

What is the difference between the two?

First of all let's understand both the categories. The length of compact SUVs usually ranges between 4 meters to 4.4 meters. For example, Hyundai Creta (length 4.33 meters), whose ex-showroom price starts from Rs 10.79 lakh and goes up to Rs 20.20 lakh. Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Tata Sierra and Mahindra XUV 3XO also fall in this category.

Their ground clearance is 190-200 mm, which is enough for the rough roads of the city and the unpaved roads of the village. Mileage is also available up to 18-22 kmpl. These are 5-seaters, but come with ample boot space for the family (up to 433 litres) and features like panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, 360° camera and ADAS.

On the other hand, the length of a full-size SUV is more than 4.6 meters. For example, Toyota Fortuner (4.79 m), whose price ranges from Rs 34.16 lakh to Rs 49.59 lakh. Their ground clearance is up to 225 mm, which is better for driving in water or off-road in heavy rain. A 7 seater option is available in these, which is attractive for large families (5-7 members). But the mileage is only 10-12 kmpl. The petrol variant gives a mileage of less than 10 kmpl.

Who is right for the city?

Traffic jam of 2-3 hours is a common problem in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru or Lucknow. Narrow streets, crowd of two-wheelers and shortage of parking. Here the compact SUV moves easily. Their turning radius is small (5.2-5.5 meters) and parking is also easy.

Models like Creta or Seltos can be fitted even in small spaces and society parking. Whereas a big SUV like Fortuner is difficult to maneuver, doesn't get parking spots and feels slow in traffic. Its real-world mileage in the city drops to 8-10 kmpl, which is a burden on the middle class pockets.

Calculating running costs

Running cost is the biggest factor for a middle class family. Insurance of a compact SUV like Creta is Rs 40-50 thousand per year and servicing is Rs 8-10 thousand per service. The total ownership cost in 5 years is around Rs 15-20 lakh. Yes, the insurance of an SUV like Fortuner is above Rs 1 lakh, servicing is expensive and parts like tire-brake are also quite expensive.

For a middle class family (monthly income 1-2 lakh) the EMI of Fortuner itself becomes 60-70 thousand, whereas Creta can be purchased at an installment of 20-25 thousand. Resale value of both is good, but compact SUV is in more demand in the market.

Which is more comfortable?

Talking about family comfort, it is ahead in the full-size SUV space. Children can sit comfortably in the third row of Fortuner or Scorpio N. Due to better suspension, there is less fatigue in long drives on the highway. But in everyday life, compact SUVs are a better option for school drop, office commute and weekend shopping. Small SUVs are a more profitable deal for a family of 5 members.

Full-size SUVs dominate on the highway and long journeys. Stability at 100-120 kmph, power (Fortuner 200+ bhp) and 4×4 option make them special, but 80% of driving in India happens in cities and nearby highways. Both have high ground clearance to avoid potholes, but the compact SUV's lighter weight (1.4-1.6 tonnes) and better mileage make it practical.

Which one makes sense to buy?

If we look at the trends of 2025-26, the compact SUV segment is growing rapidly. From sub-compacts like Tata Punch, Hyundai Venue to Creta, this is the new dream of the middle class. Whereas full-size SUV is for premium buyers. Due to inflation, price of petrol and diesel and introduction of electric vehicles, the focus on running costs has increased.

Compact SUV is a better option for Indian roads, traffic and middle class family. It comes in the budget, is comfortable in the city, has good mileage and fulfills the family needs. If you have a family of 7, do a lot of highway driving or are into off-roading, consider a full-size (Scorpio N or Fortuner). If you want to save money, then compact SUV will also do a good job at a low price.

Mahindra BE 6 Batman Edition

Mahindra has re-launched the Batman Edition of its popular electric SUV BE 6. This special edition was introduced for the first time last year in August 2025, which is inspired by Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy. At that time it was limited to 999 units and was sold out in just 135 seconds as soon as the booking opened, which showed tremendous demand. Seeing the huge demand, Mahindra has decided to bring it back.

This Batman Edition is based on the top-spec Pack Three variant (79 kWh battery) of the BE6. Its ex-showroom price has been kept at Rs 28.49 lakh. The Mahindra BE 6 Batman Edition is a little more expensive than the previous version, but that's understandable considering its exclusive features and collector value. Let's take a look at its design, features, performance and booking details.

Design and features
