ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) started the study of 10 percent blending in 2025. Pilot trials of 2 percent isobutanol-diesel blend with organizations like HPCL, BPCL, Praj Industries and Tata Motors are scheduled to begin from Q2 FY2027. Many generator sets have been successfully run on 100 percent ethanol and isobutanol. This can make India the first big step in the diesel biofuel program.
What did Gadkari say?
Nitin Gadkari has clarified that ethanol cannot be blended directly into diesel, hence we are preparing isobutanol from ethanol. Isobutanol can become an alternative to diesel. We are moving towards 15 percent isobutanol blending. Referring to the good results of the pilot demonstration, he said that the engines can run on these fuels. This step is important for energy self-reliance, reducing imports and clean transportation. Gadkari had also discussed this at the launch of Maruti Suzuki WagonR flex-fuel.

Its ex-showroom price starts from ₹ 13.49 lakh and goes up to ₹ 24.95 lakh.
It is a ladder-frame SUV with a rugged and commanding design, with a length of 4662 mm and ground clearance of 187 mm. The interior is equipped with premium leatherette seats, spacious 6/7 seater layout, dual-zone AC, large touchscreen infotainment system, sunroof and ventilated seats. Features include Sony sound system, wireless connectivity, 360° camera and ADAS in top variants.
In terms of safety, it has received a 5-star global NCAP rating, in which features like 6 airbags, ESP, ABS, TPMS and hill descent control have been provided. Engine options available are 2.0L turbo petrol (200 PS) and 2.2L diesel (130-172 PS), which come mated to 6-speed manual/automatic transmission and RWD/4WD. Mileage is around 12 kmpl in petrol and 15-16 kmpl (ARAI) in diesel.
Mahindra Thar
Mahindra Thar is at second place in terms of sales. A total of 10,669 units were sold last month. This figure represents an impressive growth of 12 percent on an annual basis as compared to the total 9,542 units sold in June 2025.
Mahindra XUV 3X0
Mahindra XUV 3XO is at number three in the list. In June 2026, this SUV got a total of 10,063 new customers. This figure represents an impressive increase of 42 percent on an annual basis compared to the total 7,089 units sold in June 2025.
Mahindra XUV 7XO

Tata Motors has launched the Jubilee Edition of its popular mid-size SUV Tata Sierra to celebrate the milestone of domestic sales of 50,000 units. This special edition is available as dealer-fitted accessory packs on Smart+, Pure and Adventure variants. The Pure adds front-rear dashcams, parcel tray, magnetic sunshades. The Adventure has ROQ styling with dashcams. Standard features may include panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, triple screen setup (in top variants).
6 airbags are standard in Tata Sierra. Also there is ESP, all disc brakes, ISOFIX, Level 2+ ADAS (in some variants) and strong structure. The Jubilee Edition retains the standard safety features.

Jubilee Edition is based on ICE variants. It has 1.5 liter NA petrol (106 hp, 145 Nm), 1.5 liter turbo petrol (160 hp, 255 Nm) and 1.5 liter diesel (118 hp, 260/280 Nm) engine options. It can be purchased with manual and automatic gearbox.
Tata has also recently launched the Sierra EV, which can be purchased at a starting ex-showroom price of ₹ 18.79 lakh. It has 63 kWh and 75 kWh battery packs. In a recent interview given to Indian Express, Nitin Gadkari told that Assam Petro-Chemicals is producing about 700 tonnes of methanol daily. If this fuel starts being used on a large scale in the coming time, then the fuel expenditure of the transport sector can reduce significantly. Especially truck and bus operators will get the most benefit from this.
Trial has already been successful

Tata Motors has launched special Stealth Editions of its two most popular SUVs Harrier and Safari. These limited edition models were showcased for the first time at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. Stealth Edition has been introduced on the occasion of completion of 27 years of Tata Safari. It has a special combination of attractive matte black finish, blacked-out elements and premium features.
These editions are limited to a total of 2,700 units, making them exclusive. The Harrier Stealth Edition is based on the Fearless+ variant, while the Safari is based on the Accomplished+ trim. Prices start at ₹25.09 lakh for the Harrier Stealth and ₹25.74 lakh for the Safari Stealth, ex-showroom Delhi. Both models are available in 6-speed manual and automatic transmission.
