This is better for those who want to avoid light interior. Both offer a spacious 5-door cabin, good seating and rear AC vents, but the Star Edition's interior feels more luxurious and sophisticated.

Features and safety

Here's the biggest difference. Basic variants of the standard Thar Rox (like MX1/MX3) come with basic features like manual AC, small touchscreen and cruise control. Features like panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats are available in the mid-range (MX5/AX5L), but the Star Edition packs top-end features. Features like panoramic skyroof, front ventilated seats, 360-degree camera, blind spot monitor, obstacle view, 9-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio (including subwoofer), 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment + digital cluster, wireless charging, Alexa built-in, powered driver seat, automatic climate control, power foldable ORVMs are included in it. The Star Edition comes with AX7L level features, which are much better than the standard mid-variant.

Both get basic safety features like 6 airbags (driver, passenger, side and curtain), ABS, EBD, ESP, hill hold/descent control, TPMS, ISOFIX, 360-degree camera, all-disc brakes and 5-star Bharat NCAP rating. The lower variants may be missing some features as standard, but the Star Edition includes top-level safety features like Level-2 ADAS, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning. Overall safety is stronger in both, but the Star Edition is more advanced.

Engine and Performance

Both have the same engine options. The first one is a 2.0L turbo petrol (mStallion TGDi), which produces 175-177 PS power and 380 Nm torque (in AT) and is being sold only with RWD. The second is a 2.2L turbo diesel (mHawk) engine, which produces 150-152 PS and 330 Nm in RWD, while 175 PS and 370-400 Nm in 4×4.

If you want a basic and affordable Thar Rox, go for the Standard (especially the MX series). However, if you want premium looks, black theme interior and top-end features (panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon, 360 camera) then the Star Edition is the best option. It offers better value than the MX5 and comes with features close to the AX7L. Overall, the Star Edition is more stylish, feature-rich and value packed.

We have brought for you a list of the cheapest hybrid cars in the country. These vehicles are available between Rs 16 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, whose mileage also ranges from 25-28 km/litre. These are self-charging hybrids, in which the battery charges itself and does not require plug-in. Come, let us know about their price and features.

Maruti Suzuki Victoris

Maruti Victoris is currently the cheapest Hybrid Car in the country. You can buy it in the Indian market at a starting ex-showroom price of only Rs 10.49 lakh. At the same time, the ex-showroom price of the strong hybrid variant VXi starts from around Rs 16.38 lakh. This is a compact SUV which is known for its stylish design, spacious interior and high fuel efficiency.

It has a 1.5 liter petrol engine with an electric motor, which gives a total power of 114-120 bhp. ARAI claimed mileage is up to 28.65 km/l. Features include 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, 360 degree camera, cruise control, 6 airbags and LED headlights.

Maruti Grand Vitara

Maruti Grand Vitara is the most popular Hybrid SUV in the country. The price of its strong hybrid variant starts from Rs 16.63 lakh. It is the twin of Toyota Hyrider, but comes with Maruti branding. The 1.5 liter K15C engine + electric motor gives 27.97 km/liter ARAI mileage.

Features include panoramic sunroof, head-up display, ventilated seats, ADAS features (in some variants), wireless charging and connected car technology. This SUV gives more ground clearance and off-road capability. Because of Maruti, parts are cheap and service centers are available everywhere. If you want premium feel and futuristic features, then Grand Vitara is a good choice.

Toyota Hyrider

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyrider is the twin of the Grand Vitara, but comes with Toyota brand values. The price of its strong hybrid variant V starts from around Rs 16.66 lakh and goes up to around Rs 20 lakh. It also has the same 1.5 liter engine + hybrid system, which gives 27.97 km/liter mileage.

Features include 9-inch infotainment, ventilated seats, 360 degree camera, cruise control and good safety rating. The resale value of Toyota is very high, which proves beneficial in the long run. If you want brand reliability and low maintenance, then Hyrider is best.

Honda city

Honda City Hybrid is the most affordable hybrid sedan in the segment. Its price is around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) in ZX variant. It uses e:HEV technology, in which the 1.5 liter engine + electric motor gives 27.13 km/liter ARAI mileage.

Honda's build quality and refinement is top class. If you like sedans and comfort is a priority then City Hybrid is a good option. However, space is less as compared to SUV.

Our advice: If we compare these four cars, Maruti Victoris is the cheapest (from Rs 16.38 lakh), followed by Grand Vitara (16.63 lakh), Highrider (16.66 lakh) and City (20 lakh). All three SUVs are similar in mileage (27-28 km/litre), while the City is slightly less but offers a sedan experience. You can choose any one of these according to your budget and need.

If you are planning to buy Tata Sierra, then know these 5 things, you will not have to regret later.

If you are planning to buy Tata Sierra, then know these 5 things, you will not have to regret later.

Tata Sierra, which ran proudly on Indian roads in the 1990s, has once again come in a new avatar. It was launched in November 2025 and deliveries have started from January 2026. It is a mid-size lifestyle SUV, which competes with models like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Mahindra Scorpio N with stylish boxy design, premium features, strong safety and competitive pricing.

Its ex-showroom price starts from ₹ 11.49 lakh and goes up to ₹ 21.29 lakh. If you are planning to buy a new Sierra in the coming days, then this article of ours is useful for you. In this article, we will understand this 5-seater SUV from 5 different points and find out whether it will meet your needs or not?

1. Design and space

The boxy, retro-modern look of the Sierra is very attractive. It has LED light bars, flush door handles and many interesting colors available. This is an SUV with the longest wheelbase, width and height in the segment, due to which the cabin is spacious and 5 adults can sit comfortably. The boot of 622 liters is the largest in the segment, which is perfect for family trips.

2. Engine Options and Performance

It can be bought with three 1.5L engines – NA petrol (105 bhp, relaxed drive), turbo petrol (160 bhp, 255 Nm—powerful and refined) and turbo diesel (118 bhp, 280 Nm). Manual and automatic (DCA/TC) are available on all engines. ARAI mileage ranges from 18-20.5 kmpl in diesel and around 16-18 kmpl in petrol. Turbo petrol has been said to be the best in reviews, while NA petrol is budget-friendly.

3. Features and Technology

It has premium features like triple screen (instrument + infotainment), L2+ ADAS (22 features), panoramic sunroof, 12-speaker JBL/Dolby Atmos, 360° camera, ventilated seats, boss mode and powered tailgate. In some reviews, the JBL sound system has been described as overhyped and the ride quality as average. LED lighting and 6 airbags are standard even in the base variant.

4. Safety and Service

Tata's safety image is strong. With 6 airbags as standard, ESP (21 functions), traction control, ABS+EBD and L2+ ADAS, it is expected to get a 5-star rating. However, there are mixed opinions on Tata's service quality and reliability. Some owners are happy, but many complain about service centres, electrical issues and resale value.

5. Price value and buying decision

With prices starting at ₹11.49 lakh, it is value for money. It is better especially for space, features and safety. However, being a new launch there may be initial build quality niggles (panel gaps, noise). If you want style and features, you can buy quickly. If trouble-free ownership is a priority then wait for a few months, check the reviews and service feedback and then buy it.

India US Trade Deal: Will Tesla cars become cheaper in India? Did Musk recommend Trump?

India US Trade Deal: Will Tesla cars become cheaper in India? Did Musk recommend Trump?

Last Updated:

India US Trade Deal: The interim trade agreement between India and America has brought great relief to American ICE vehicles like Harley-Davidson. However, Tesla has suffered a setback due to its exclusion from the EV segment. Model Y will still remain expensive due to high import duty. Know why Tesla's path in India seems difficult at the moment.

Zoom

Tesla

India US Trade Deal: The interim trade agreement between India and the US announced on February 7 has brought relief to luxury American cars and Harley-Davidson bikes, but has been a disappointment for Elon Musk's Tesla. Under the agreement, import duty on US petrol cars (ICE) above 3000cc will be reduced from 110% to 30% (phased in over 10 years), while EVs are completely excluded. In this way, Tesla does not seem to be getting any help at the moment.

Tesla entered India by launching Model Y in July 2025. Model Y prices have remained high since then, as CBU import duty of 70-110 percent is applicable on EVs. Not exempting EVs in the agreement will not make Tesla's cars cheaper. The aim of the government is to protect the domestic EV players (Tata, Mahindra), which are investing heavily under the PLI scheme. These prices are still double that of America/China because duties and logistics are expensive. Tesla had demanded local manufacturing, but in 2025 the government had said that Tesla was not showing interest.

Tesla's path is difficult!

Tesla Model Y has been facing challenges since its launch in India. Launched in July 2025, the ex-showroom price of this EV is between ₹ 59-68 lakh, which is more than double that of the US due to 110% import duty (on CBU). This makes it costlier than locally assembled EVs like BMW iX1, Mercedes EQA in the luxury segment. Tesla is facing difficulties due to high prices, limited charging infrastructure, low brand visibility and local EV competition.

forced to give discount

Last year i.e. in 2025, only 227-263 units were sold (Vahan data). However, initially it received around 600 bookings. Later, more than half were cancelled. Out of about 300 imported units, 100 units are still unsold, due to which the inventory has increased. To boost sales, Tesla has offered a cash discount of up to ₹ 2 lakh on select variants from January 2026. Under the 'Switch and Save' scheme, offers like ₹ 3 lakh bonus on old ICE car exchange, 7-year loan on ₹ 6 lakh downpayment (EMI ₹ 49,000) and free wall charger are being given.

How will the work work?

Experts say that without local production (e.g. $500 million investment + manufacturing in 3 years) Tesla cars will remain a dream for common Indians. The agreement gave free entry to Harley-Davidson, but Tesla will have to wait again. There is still hope for discounts on EVs in the completed BTA (Bilateral Trade Agreement), but for now the prices will remain high.

From Awareness to Implementation: Key Messages from the Road Safety Campaign Telethon

From Awareness to Implementation: Key Messages from the Road Safety Campaign Telethon

New Delhi. Telethon of Road Safety Campaign 2026 is an important initiative of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). This was the fourth edition of the National Road Safety Programme, which was launched in the year 2023. From the very beginning, the objective of this campaign has been to establish road safety as a social responsibility rather than limiting it to mere rules.

This edition brought together policy-makers, creative experts, artists, technocrats and common citizens on one platform with a clear goal – to take road safety beyond rules and punitive measures and make it a part of our everyday behaviour.

The program was started by actor and road safety advocate Amitabh Bachchan. He expressed his views with emotional clarity and moral responsibility and emphasized on collective responsibility. He said that following the rules should become a natural habit and caring for other road users should be a part of our identity. His message became the central spirit of the entire telethon—“from care to duty,” i.e. turning concern into responsibility.

From the perspective of policies and administration, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari explained how infrastructure and rules can bring positive changes in behaviour. He also talked about the need for vehicle and road safety features like better standards of trucks and safety equipment for two-wheeler riders. He also clarified that technology and systems help in safety, but ultimately road safety depends on the individual's own decisions.

Actress Alia Bhatt from the world of art and cinema said that our behavior on the road is related to our family and loved ones, so this topic is personal for every person. His message was simple—good behavior on the road is a sign of love for one's family. Actor Vicky Kaushal stressed the need to control emotions while driving and avoid situations like road rage.
The telethon also highlighted the role of communication and technology in changing driving behavior and habits. Alex Kuruvilla, Trustee of Save Life Foundation, spoke about the importance of emotional and honest communication and said that change comes when people feel connected to a message and not take it as a sermon. Adore Powertron Chairperson Ravin Mirchandani said that data analysis and smart systems can help in taking better decisions, but human understanding and discretion should always remain at the center. MoRTH Additional Secretary Mahmood Ahmed discussed the use of digital tools to identify accident-prone areas and speedy improvements on highways.

Keeping empathy and sensitivity at the centre, content creator and social influencer Chatori Rajni shared his views and said that road users should be more sensitive and aware. In this context, Amitabh Bachchan suggested that a national and international level campaign should be launched inspired by the story of Chatori Rajni, so that it has a deep and lasting impact on people and they understand their responsibilities.

Taking this idea forward, composer and singer Shankar Mahadevan suggested creating a series of short songs of 30–40 seconds each, based on road safety topics such as wearing helmets, wrong-way driving and speeding. These songs can convey the main message of the campaign “from care to duty” to the people in a simple and effective manner.

The main message of the Road Safety Campaign 2026 telethon was very clear—despite having the best vehicles, strict laws and modern technology, road safety is shaped by small everyday decisions. Discipline, awareness, emotional understanding, empathy and responsibility are the real foundations of road safety. Only when care becomes duty and intention turns into behavior and habit, can India build a safe and responsive road society.

Road Safety Campaign Telethon 2026: Care becomes collective responsibility

Road Safety Campaign Telethon 2026: Care becomes collective responsibility

New Delhi. An initiative that started in the year 2023 with a simple and sensitive thinking towards the people, has today taken the form of a strong national movement. Under the leadership of Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Road Safety Campaign 2026 telethon reiterated its commitment to its core objective – safe roads for all. What started as a limited initiative has now reached its fourth edition and is growing stronger every year.

The theme of this year's telethon was 'From Care to Duty', which conveys the message that safety of other road users is not just an option but our duty. Road Safety Campaign 2026 is based on four main pillars — discipline (qaida), responsibility (kartavya), safety (kavach) and change (kranthi).

At the beginning of the telethon, Amitabh Bachchan said that progress is not possible without discipline and sense of duty. He stressed that road safety is not the responsibility of any one person, it requires collective responsibility. According to Shri Amitabh Bachchan, when respect for rules gets linked with everyone's life values, discipline becomes a daily habit and a sense of duty towards each other emerges as behaviour, only when these habits and values are imbibed by all, the dream of a safe and responsible India can come true.

After this, Shri Nitin Gadkari informed about the major initiatives of MoRTH and NHAI to improve road and highway safety. These include large-scale safety audits, better highway infrastructure, efficient traffic systems and strict compliance for commercial and private vehicles. Apart from this, for the safety of truck drivers, air conditioning and alert systems are being installed in the cabin to prevent sleep and laziness. Also, two standard helmets have been made mandatory with every two-wheeler, to encourage shared responsibility for safety.

Sharing her personal experience with everyone, actress Alia Bhatt said that responsible behavior on the road is not limited to one's own safety. He said that whatever we do affects other and future generations also. Love and concern for family inspires us to stay safe, making road safety a moral responsibility. Taking this idea forward, actor Vicky Kaushal stressed the importance of emotional control while driving and said that one should never try to overtake because of one's ego.

Other creative personalities also shared their important views in the telethon. Actor K.K. Menon spoke on right thinking and awareness, while National Award winning lyricist Swanand Kirkire said that the next generation unknowingly learns from our behavior on the road. Composer and singer Shankar Mahadevan, who has composed the Road Safety Campaign (SSA) anthem in 22 languages, highlighted the emotional power of music, which takes the message of road safety to the heart.

Giving a new dimension to creativity, The Anirudh Verma Collective presented the message of road safety through music, which awakened the feeling of compassion, discipline and joint responsibility among all. Their musical performance transformed the values of the campaign into a memorable experience.

The telethon was also attended by influential personalities from various fields who gave their active support to this initiative. Ravin Mirchandani, Chairperson, Adore Powertron, spoke on the growing role of technology and AI-based solutions in road safety and emphasized how data-driven, intelligent systems can support continuous communication to predict risks and influence behaviour.

Dr. Ilya Jafar, Chief of Programs, Save Life Foundation, highlighted the need for proactive mitigation options and highlighted the organization's Zero-Fatality Solutions, which are now being implemented in 100 high-risk highways (Zero-Fatality Corridors) and districts (Zero-Fatality Districts) across the country in collaboration with MoRTH. Alex Kuruvilla, Trustee of Save Life Foundation, stressed the need for continuous awareness and effective communication for responsible road behaviour. Content creator Chatori Rajni made the message of road safety more humane and effective by sharing her personal pain.

An emotional and inspiring part of the telethon was 'Raah-Veer Samman', which honored the common citizens who displayed extraordinary courage on the roads of the country during the accident. These road warriors came forward at the time of accidents and helped the injured and many times saved the lives of others without caring for their own lives. His contribution became a living example of duty, humanity and sensitivity.

At the conclusion of the Road Safety Campaign 2026 telethon, the message was clear that safe roads are not made just by rules and systems, but by people who make discipline a habit, care and take responsibility. Only when care becomes duty and awareness turns into behavior, the journey towards a safe and responsible India begins.

Join this campaign and take up the responsibility of making roads safe for all.
