Entop Simurgh is a swanky supercar that has grabbed everyone’s attention at the Geneva Motor Show in Qatar. While the car’s design is certainly look-worthy, the key USP for the Simurgh is the origin country of this sports car. It is the first-ever indigenous supercar from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, which made this car one of the most extraordinary exhibits at the prestigious automotive event.

Entop Simurgh first broke cover in January 2023 as Mada 9 and claims to have been designed, developed and built entirely in Afghanistan. The stylish supercar, which is currently in prototype phase and awaits a production-ready avatar, claims to have been developed and built by the Kabul-based manufacturer Entop in collaboration with Afghanistan Technical Vocational Institute (ATVI).

The Entop Simurgh sports a glossy all-black paint theme. The car carries sleek LED headlamps, slim LED taillights, a sharp front splitter, large black alloy wheels, and flared fenders. The sculpted side profile gets wide air intakes and a bold rear diffuser, while the swooping roofline is there to help it achieve better aerodynamic efficiency.

Powering the Entop Simurgh supercar is a rear-mounted four-cylinder engine sourced from a 2000 Toyota Corolla. The mid-engine supercar comes with the powerplant cradled between tube chassis and surrounded by lightweight composite materials. While Entop claimed that the engine has been modified specifically for Simurgh, it has not revealed the technical specifications.

While the Entop Simurgh has grabbed many eyeballs at the Geneva Motor Show in Qatar, this is not the first time the sportscar made its appearance for the public eyes. Previously, the Afghan manufacturer revealed this supercar through its social media platforms. However, the car was christened as Mada 9 at that time and now the company has rebadged it as Simurgh.

Charging iPhone 15 using a BMW car’s wireless charger may damage the smartphone

Charging iPhone 15 using a BMW car’s wireless charger may damage the smartphone

Wireless charging technology has become one of the prime features offered in modern cars. While all the luxury cars come with this new-age technology-driven feature, mass-market cars too get the same. However, the wireless charging technology in certain BMW cars appears to be causing the Apple iPhone 15 models to permanently lose the ability to use NFC functions such as Apple Pay and Apple CarKey, reported Mac Rumors.

By: HT Auto Desk
| Updated on: 08 Oct 2023, 14:35 PM

BMW became the first carmaker to enable its customers to use the iPhone as a fully digital car key.

The report claims that the problem is connected to the NFC chip inside the Apple iPhone 15 models. The NFC chip works on an ultra-low frequency and allows the iPhone 15 users to perform certain functions wirelessly. These include paying for a product or service using Apple Pay or unlocking their cars using Apple CarKey. However, the report claims that charging the iPhone 15 using the wireless charging docks of certain BMW cars may damage the phone’s ability to use the NFC chip permanently.

Watch: Made in India BMW M340i xDrive: First Drive Review

One of the BMW models that have caused such a problem for a user is the 3 Series. An iPhone 15 user has reportedly written on Reddit that the BMW 3 Series acted like an oven heater. The user reportedly claimed that barely charging the iPhone 15 using the wireless charger onboard a BMW 3 Series resulted in the smartphone becoming super hot. However, the report didn’t specify what other BMW cars are causing this issue for iPhone 15 models.

The wireless charging function in a car cabin is powered by a separate charging coil and it uses induction technology. The system works when the dock and the phone’s back are located close to one another. It is not clear, what is causing the malfunction in this case. The report has not revealed whether the iPhone 15 has some issues with the charging coil or the components used in the BMW cars are causing the problem.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 452 price, India launch, new engine

Royal Enfield Himalayan 452 price, India launch, new engine

New liquid-cooled 452cc engine makes 40hp; fit and finish appear better than Himalayan 411.

The latest reveal from Royal Enfield about the Himalayan 452 shows the bike in all its production-spec glory for the first time.

  1. Gets mountain graphics on a white base paint scheme
  2. New USD fork, new instrument console seen previously
  3. India launch in November

As is evident from the large radiator, this is a liquid-cooled mill, and from a government homologation document, we already know the exact displacement and peak power output for this new bike. The Himalayan 452’s engine is rated for a peak power output of 40hp at 8,000rpm (identical to the new Triumph Speed 400).

Also See:

What can also be seen here are big fork protectors on the front mudguard and despite its off-road credentials the rider’s seat looks quite approachable as does the pillion’s perch. This shouldn’t come as a surprise as most Himalayan owners tend to use their machines for long hauls fully loaded with luggage and a pillion.

The new fender and overall stance of the bike looks more muscular and purposeful, and it doesn’t appear as slim as the current bike, especially with that big curvy fuel tank. The new stubby exhaust muffler also has better finish levels than the exhaust on the 411. Considering the added performance the new engine has we could see taller ground clearance and added suspension travel than the existing Himalayan. When the Royal Enfield Himalayan 452 does launch in India in November, it will go up against the KTM 390 Adventure (Rs 2.80 lakh – Rs 3. 60 lakh) and BMW G 310 GS (Rs 3.25 lakh).

2023 F1 Qatar GP sprint results: Verstappen claims third F1 title

2023 F1 Qatar GP sprint results: Verstappen claims third F1 title

Verstappen secures his third consecutive F1 world title at Qatar, but Piastri denied him victory in the sprint race.

Max Verstappen has clinched his third F1 world title after finishing second in the Qatar GP sprint. Following his dominant Japanese GP victory, the Red Bull Racing driver needed to outscore his teammate Sergio Perez by just three points to wrap up the title. And Perez’ Lap 11 crash (after contact with Esteban Ocon and Nico Hulkenberg) meant that Verstappen achieved this feat before the sprint was even over.

The frenetic Qatar sprint also gave McLaren plenty of reasons to celebrate, with Oscar Piastri clinching his first win in F1 and Lando Norris rounding out the podium in third place.

  1. Verstappen seals 2023 F1 title with six Grands Prix to go
  2. Piastri wins sprint, 1.8 secs ahead of Verstappen
  3. Norris P3 for McLaren

Piastri scores first F1 win

Armed with the resurgent MCL60, Piastri outperformed both Norris and Verstappen to bag pole position for the sprint race. All three drivers opted to start the race on medium tyres, while others like George Russell and the Ferrari duo of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc started on the more aggressive softs.

Two Safety Car re-starts in quick succession benefitted those running on softs and helped Russell take the lead from Piastri. But the McLaren driver fought back to reclaim the lead. And the soft runners’ pace started falling off in the second half of the race, turning the tide in Piastri’s favour

Verstappen would have wanted to seal his third F1 title in style, with victory in the sprint. But he could only gain a couple of tenths on Piastri in the closing stages, and had to settle for second place.

“I’m very happy. It was a very stressful race! Safety Cars were my friend today, especially when Max got behind me,” said Piastri, who claimed his first victory in F1.

Verstappen claims third F1 title

On the back of a record-breaking season, Verstappen has sealed the 2023 F1 world championship with six more Grands Prix to go.  He also becomes only the fifth driver in history to score three back-to-back F1 titles (the others being Juan Manuel Fangio, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton).

“Unbelievable guys,” said Verstappen on his cool-down lap.

“An incredible year. Thank you for providing me with such a car. It’s been a pleasure so far this year. I just want to say a big thank you to everyone here at the track, back at the factory for putting all the effort in. To have been able to achieve something like this, I can’t thank you all enough, and besides all the performance-related stuff, it’s also been a pleasure working with you all, and that’s definitely the most important in the end. Thank you very much.”

Tata Motors has teased both Harrier and Safari facelift SUVs on its social media handles in the run-up to the launch. Both models have undergone several changes, including design, features and powertrain. Here is a look at what all has changed.

Tata Motors will offer the Harrier facelift SUV in four trims. Like the new Nexon and Nexon EV, Tata has dropped the old nomenclature to identify the model variants. The carmaker will use Smart, Pure, Adventure and Fearless names for Harrier variants too. For Safari, the top-end variant is called Accomplished.

Tata Harrier, Safari facelift: Design updates

The Harrier and Safari facelift SUVs will come with a new front face. Among the key changes are an updated grille flanked by vertically split headlight setup and LED DRLs stretched across the bonnet. The main headlamp housing is new and is now positioned vertically. At the sides, the Harrier SUV will sit on a set of redesigned alloy wheels measuring between 17 inches and 19 inches. At the rear, the Harrier gets connected light bar feature that Safari facelift has also received.

Tata Harrier, Safari facelift: Interior and features

On the inside, the 2023 Harrier will offer a new 12.30-inch infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster which look similar to the ones introduced in 2023 Nexon and Nexon EV. The dashboard will come with ambient lighting promising a more youthful vibe inside the cabin of the new Harrier. The new Harrier will also come with the new two-spoke steering wheel with a backlit panel showing Tata Motors’ logo and mounted controls that made its debut inside the Nexon and Nexon EV facelift SUVs.

Among other features, the Harrier facelift SUV will also offer powered tailgates, 10 JBL speaker sound system with Harmon AudioworX, paddle shifters, 360 degree camera and more.

Tata Harrier, Safari facelift: Safety features

Tata Harrier price, Harrier and Safari facelift revealed, new design and features

Tata Harrier price, Harrier and Safari facelift revealed, new design and features

Bookings for both SUVs have officially commenced for Rs 25,000.

Following a slew of teasers, Tata Motors has now fully revealed the Harrier and Safari facelifts. Both SUV gets a comprehensively revised exterior and interior design, along with several new feature additions, although they remain mechanically unchanged from before.

Tata Motors has also officially commenced bookings for both models for a token amount of Rs 25,000. Expect prices to be announced in the coming weeks.

  1. Harrier, Safari facelifts now more differentiated in design
  2. Gets new features like dual-zone AC, paddle shifter, 19-inch wheels
  3. Bookings open at Rs 25,000

Tata Harrier facelift exterior and interior

The most comprehensive updates are to the fascia of the SUV – it gets an all-new bumper that’s split into distinct upper and lower sections by a contrasting black band in between. The upper portion features a grille that’s grown broader but is sharper and is headlined by a full-width LED light bar. Meanwhile, the lower section features a gaping central air intake underlined by thick plastic cladding. Both the grille and the central air intake feature contrasting inserts.

The main headlamp clusters, meanwhile, are pushed towards the edges giving it a wider stance, and like the new Nexon, have a trapezoidal shape housed within a C-shaped enclosure.

In profile, not much has changed, but you get a new design for the five-spoke alloy wheels, while at the rear, the tail-lamp band has been revised with new LED internals, and it also appears a lot sleeker than before. The rear bumper also gets new protrusions for the reflectors and there’s a gloss-black finish for the rear skid plate. Unlike the Nexon facelift, which saw some sheet metal changes, the updates here are only to the soft plastic parts.

The interior has also been as comprehensively updated as the exterior. The central touchscreen is now a free-standing unit – it was previously integrated into the dashboard – and is offered in two sizes – 10.25-inch or 12.3-inch, depending on the trim. The facelift also ditches the faux wood trim on the dashboard for a mix of materials that includes a textured top panel, gloss black surfaces and leatherette padding with contrast stitching – all underlined by a slim strip of LED ambient light.

You also get the new touch-based HVAC control panel from the Nexon, a new four-spoke steering wheel with a backlit Tata logo and a 10.25-inch customisable digital instrument cluster with navigation. The centre console area has also been revised with a shorter, stubbier gear lever for automatic variants, and there’s a new rotary dial for the drive mode selector with a digital display. While higher-spec models get an electronic parking brake, the aircraft-style handbrake lever on the lower variants has been retained as is.

Tata Harrier facelift features

There are notable upgrades on the equipment front too – welcome and goodbye animations by the LED DRLs, up to 19-inch alloy wheels with aero inserts, dual-zone automatic AC, 10-speaker JBL sound system, paddle shifters for the automatic variants, rear window sunshades, ventilated and powered front seats with memory function, gesture-controlled powered tailgate and Bi-LED projector headlamps. The 360-degree camera, wireless charger, panoramic sunroof and ADAS suite have also been carried forward. It now gets up to 7 airbags, 6 of which are standard across the range.

Tata Safari facelift exterior and interior

Unlike the outgoing Harrier and Safari, which looked near identical up front, the Safari is slightly more differentiated than its 5-seater sibling. The new grille, for instance, is even broader here on the Safari and the central air intake at the bottom also gets its own unique inserts. The biggest differentiator, however, are the headlamps that are positioned slightly higher up and have a rectangular shape. The C-shaped headlamp housing and the connected LED light bar treatment are common on both SUVs.

Like the Harrier, not much has changed in profile either, except for a new design for the 19-inch wheels that’s again unique to the Safari. At the rear, there’s a new tail-lamp band with a connected LED bar. The rear bumper also gets a cleaner design with rectangular protrusions at the edges, mimicking the front-end design.

The interior, however, isn’t all that differentiated from the Harrier except for a different finish for the central dashboard panel. Additional features of the Harrier include a ventilation function for the second-row seats.

Tata Harrier, Safari facelift trim details

Tata Motors has ditched the old trim nomenclature for the Harrier and Safari and has adopted new persona-based trim names that’s akin to the new Nexon. The Harrier is available in Smart, Pure, Adventure and Fearless trims, while the Safari is available in Smart, Pure, Adventure and Accomplished trims.

Like in the Nexon, these trims also come with their own unique colour options, as well as exterior and interior accents. The Harrier, for instance, gets a unique yellow paint with yellow accents on the inside while the Safari gets a unique gold finish. Both the Harrier and Safari will also continue to get the Dark Edition treatment on several trims.

Tata Harrier, Safari facelift powertrain options

Mechanically and under the skin, both SUVs remain unchanged from before. They continue to be powered by a 170hp, 350Nm, 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that’s mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, driving the front wheels. It comes with Terrain response modes (Normal, Rough & wet) and multiple drive modes (Eco, City & Sports), and Tata Motors claims that the suspension setup has also been retuned to better suit our road conditions.

Price announcements for the Harrier and Safari facelifts should be just around the corner. As before, the Harrier will continue to rival the likes of MG Hector, Mahindra XUV700 and Jeep Compass, while the Safari rivals the likes of the Scorpio N, Hyundai Alcazar, and MG Hector Plus.

The nomenclature of the models suggests their size and positioning relative to each other with the EV1 sitting at the base of the range while the EV9 serves as the flagship.

Of these, the EV6 crossover is already on sale here, and the EV5 debuted in production form just a couple of months earlier. The 4.6-meter-long SUV will be offered for sale only in the China initially, but will also make it to select global markets eventually. Crucially, the trademarking comes just before Kia’s EV day on October 12, which is when we can expect more details on the remaining models.
